JOHN A. MacKENZIE
The death of John A, McKenzie
at his home, Con. S,I:.Ashfield, on
Thursday, removed one of the
Township's most highly esteemed
citizens: He was in his '571h, year,.
Mr 'MacKenzie was the third
eldest :'son of the the late Donald
and Mary. MacKenzie and was
,.born -across the road ,from where
he has•resided since his marriage
to Miss, Elsie Doughtery, 27 :years
ago:• .
He served on the. -Township
council ;as councillor':in' 1927'7and
1928 and as reeve for 'four years
•from. 1929~ to .1'932, being succeed-
ed. by Murdd1Vlatheson. Fie 'was'
active as a member of St. An-
drew's. United Church ' Iand took
an interest in, everything for the
betterment of the life` of the com-
munity.. He had been ill since
early ' sumrner,' spending; some
time in Goderich hospital and in
Victoria hospital, London:
In politics. he.' was a staunch
Liberal- and was -.'a member •of
Porte Albert United Church .•in.
which he -Woken' active interest..
In the • patriotic effort', he gave
the 'same'. interest• and helping
hand to the needs ,of the many
war sevices; as' characterized.; his
work; in .19;14-18, giving of him-
self and his means until •illness
forced. him to lay . aside his activ-

The Langside , Red Cross held
their social evening at Mr, and
Mrs. Ivan Conley's-home on Fri-
day evening with an attendance
of�'•around 65 'and '• a collecton' of
about $10.0,;0 'was received: The
evening. was spent in games until
e-1even. 'o'clock when 15 ' games bf,
bingo were ' enjoyed. The special
prize was ,..won, by Jim Parks.
The',- deer season. 'opened with
plenty of activity: on Monday
morning .in `this locality. with two
or three cars moving here and
there every hour and..groups of
three- or four hunters could be',
'seen 'crossing rhe fields or'walk=
irig the road to 'their .'cars.
A' Red. Cross quilting_ was held
fast Tuesday at the home of Mrs.
Wm. Brown.

Besides his wife he ,is survived
by one daughter, °Mrs. Harold
Stewart and One son Donald, both
of whom were at home during his
.illness, Donald having . received
leave from the army to look .after
the farm. He is survived" also .by
two sisters, Miss Mary and Miss
Grace MacKenzie, Reg N., both
of Toronto and by three brothers,
Alexander, se5ving in the Army,
in England, 'Dr. Hector 'McKenzie
of Calgary and Donald of Blyth.
Two brothers, James and Rod-
erick ' predeceased 'him.
The funeral was held from his
late residence on Saturday, to
Dungannon Cemetery with Rev:'

Cargill; Mrs. John -Desmond, Pin-

The funeral took place from
his late. 'home 'on Friday morn-
ing at 1.14, o'clock' to. St.. Joseph.'s
church;` Kingsbridg'er Interment
was made in' Kingsbridge ' cem-
etery.
CHARLES M ROSS
~ A native . of Lochalsh, Charles
M. Ross died late Friday .evening
at his home in Goderich, •where
he was suddenly stricken and
passed away before` a doctor ar-
rived. Hg was. 76. • '
Mr. Ross was a son of the late
Donald Ross and Christina Mac-
Kenzie and was bon 'on' .the
homestead at Lochalsh,: still , oe-
cupied 'by his brothers, Roderick
and' Alex.
Charles went to. Sault Ste.
Marie as a .young man and about
thirty-five years ago • went to
Go :erich Whe'" re `he ,was employed
with Me C. P. ft., . retiring Sev-
eral .years ago. Mrs. Ross .prede-
ceased him three years ago. A
family of eight children survive:

all of Detroit; William, Great
Lakes .sailor"; Mrs. Floyd Spence,"

Mr. Ross was hirnselfone of a
family of twelve, of whom only
one sister, Mrs. • James McNain

BENJAMIN .'. TAYLOR.
One of Blyth's oldest residents,
Benjamin Taylor, passed away at
his home on:,Novernber 8th,;, in
his . 89th ,year. He. had ' been in
failing health for some years.
- The late Mr. ' Taylor was a
native of West.. Wawanosh Town-
ship, .being. a son of John and
Elizabeth Taylor.. He Was a car.-
penter by trade and in earlier
days 'specialized as a sawyer and
established a''record at the Au-
burn. sawmill of'52=years consecu-
tive service when •the mill was
owned by Edgar Lawson. He also
worked with his uncle, Thomas.
H. Taylor, in East Wawanosh for
29 years before moving. to Blyth
where he owned a share in the
planing mill; andcontinued to
work theere until he was 82.
Mr, Taylor; was twice married.
In 1878 she married Mary Bell of
Wawanosh and in 1928 they cel-
ebrated their golden -.wedding.'
Mrs. Taylor died nine years ago.
Five years ago Mr. Taylor marri-
ed Mary Tunney, who survives.

interesting experiences of early
days in the district, including the
famous Donnybrook 'Fair.
