Red -Cross workers met atthe
home of Mrs.. Victor Gawley last
week.. The. meeting opened with
devotion, Mrs.. G. Einerson read-
ing -the scripture portion: The

MRS. ROBERT MURDOCH
The daughter of a pioneer
'Parampunt "•couple, Mrs. Robert
Murdoch, passed away in Sault:
Ste, ryMarie,
-,Ontario, on Wednes-
day of -last week. She was in her
78th year, and was 111 only few
days with a severe ,paralytic seiz-
ure.. .
Mrs.. Murdoch • was formerly
Mary Eliza Murchison,', daughter
;of Donald Murchison and Ann
Barr, who operated' the store at
Paramount for many years;. and
were well and widely known:-

;nine children; who :grew to ma
turity, were born, only; two of
whom: survive today, Sam who.
has madehis home for .a time at
Si.ilt Ste Marie with hissister,
and Rev. J. M. (Jim) Murchison
of Foxwarren, Man. Predeceasing
Mrs.. Murdoch were ,John, ' Will,
Peter, • Kate; Annie and Bell.
After her marriage to Robert,
M4rdoch; son of another pioneer,
Ashfield . family, Mr. , and Mrs.
Murdoch ' conducted a general
store business at Lochalsh,' Dun
gannon and Hepworth before go-
ing . to Sault Ste. Marie .as an.:
architect. They . also resided • in
Detroit for a number of yews,.
returning to the • Sault where Mr.
Murdoch passed .away two years
ago on November 19th. •
The funeral service was held
in •the'. United Church., Lucknow,
on Friday afternoon; conducted
by Rev. J. W. Stewart. ' Inter=
::merit was , in .Greenhill. cemetery
with T. H.Burns, Hugh Macln-

acting, as pallbearers.

In the early hours of . Thurs-
day, November 4th there died in
Alexandria. Hospital, Goderich,
M
ichael Courtney in . his 66th
year. The deceased was born' on
he 10th Cori. of • Ashfield near
Lanes, 'the youngest son of the
late ; Catherine O'Connor and
Michael Courtney, early pioneers
of Ashfield who came from Ire-
land....Iie had been in the hospital
less than a . week and hoped to
. return home the: ,following day
when death came very suddenly,
due to a, heart condition. He grew_
to young manhood on his : -fath-
er's
f ather's farm and then bought a farm
on the Bluewater, one mile north
of Kintail. 'He was an industri-
ous and hard .•w,orking farmer and
his honesty, integrity and sim-
plicity of life won for • him the
esteem of all his neighborsand
friends: His relationship with his.
neighbors , was one of unfailing
goodwill. Deceased was not mar-
ried.
He is survived by three sisters,.
Mrs. John Bowles; Mrs. "Frank
and Mrs. R. McCosh forwarded
their thariks ' for gifts at':this-
meeting. The ' election of officers
was held: Mrs; . Jack Emerson is
the president, Mrs. Howard
Thompson is secretary and Miss
Marville Scott, treasurer. A vote
of .thanks was tendered the host-
ess and the singing of the Nat-
ional Anthem closed the meeting;
Mr: Donald McCosh brought his
mother home from London on
Sunday.
• The sale . at Mr: James Pollock's
was largely attended on Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. Victor Whitley
and ,Edwin of Hamilton spent the
Week -end at Mr. Jack Emerson's.

year. Mr. Sullivan, whowas un-

livan, John L. Sullivan 'and Frank
