road fit for traffic. In the mean

County road' just east . of the

wanoh Township road superin-
tendent. For a distance of , sever-
al rods the .bottom literally drop-
ped out of the read, and as it
sank, banks on the roadside, were
heaved up about four feet ,The
cavity became a. anal' lake and:
a twenty-one foot rod that was
plunged into the hole 'failed to
reach solid ground.
One explanationof 'the occurr
ence is that a subtetrarfean pass-
age may exist, leading to Mud
Lake about a quarter Of a mile
distant.
The ounty has bought a clay
'knoll with which they hope to
fill the rnaw ,when a foundation
