Causeof the fire- was attribut- ed by the Goderich' paper. to "a carelessly dropped cigarette". The only. explanation Mr. and Mrs. Roach.have is that a spark from Burt's pipe blew from : the' front seat to a corner of the : upholstery in the back seat, and later caused the .blaze. Burt doesn't `smoke cigarettes. _ • Considerable damage was done to the upholstery before the ,fire department arrived ..to break a glass in the locked car, and ex- tinguish the blaze. In the meantime the position of jhe car and the license number was announced over the public address system, and Mr. and Mrs. Roach ran all the way to the 'car, - reaching it ' in . time to thank ' a couple . of the firemen for their efforts, and who • told themthat in five minutes their car would' have been a complete wreck. The Signal -Star • erroneously claimed: "The name of the owner was not obtained. He did not even turn' up until after the races, . ap- parently one of those .motorists who do . not know the numbers Of their markers, as they were call- ed over the ,public address sys- a tem". fue i i Corningivents DANCING AT PARAMOUNT There is dancing at Paramount each Friday night to music' by Carruthers ° popular orchestra.
