THE LUCKNOW SENTINEL, LUCKNOW, ONTARIO
Hugh Mac's Letter

July 19th; 1943.
DearSentinel Friends:
Summer is, here and I find myr.,
self in Toronto. .Having never
• written to The Sentinel about'this
• place, it occurred to me that you
might be interested. It is the-
' first time of My life tra ineTor-
• onto in summer; with one ekeeP-
tion..Twentjr.-four years ago now,
a group of, us :returned soldiers
studied theology under the shade,
of the leaves'ef 1,91.9. Toronto is.
• a great place ,for shade: Much, of
the city is like' a forest. Maples,
• 'elms; oaks tower oyer, the house
" tops': fA friend.who 'was up over
the city recently. inean observe-
tiori plane said larg'e areas of the
• city looked like "the forest prim-
, eVal". Were people to move away
• from here I -suppose - it. would
•, take only about tenyears to re -
num. to wild nature with, . deer, ,
. bear and wolves roaming where
People walked •on paved streets• .
. A black squirrel outside my win-
dow looks- at me right now as if,
so far as he is concerned I am• -
already a stranger and a curios-
ity: is a strange feeling being
•in Toronto this time of the' year:
'Toronto, Ontario", 'is becoM,

now: .By the label on the news -
in a man's pocket earning

too, may be a symbol: Is it the
- - symbol of -the unifying of- two -old
political parties into. one in spite
of the fact that both Coneerva-

their separate candidates up for

and are now passing? Is it•
