DEAWERY MEETING I June Session At Port Elgin
AT WALKERTON.
A number of our W. A. ladies
were privileged .to attend. the
Deanery meeting in St. Thomas'
church, Walkerton On Tuesday of
last week. The clergy, laymen and
W.A. members joined in the cele-
bration of Holy Ooraniunion at
10 am.. with the rural Dean Rev.
Mr: Skinner of rhesley and the
rector. of; 'Walkerton, Rev, Mr.
Capper celebrants. This was such
a splendid begirmag "for. a day
of fellowship and- insp,iration to-
gether.. Immediately following
were meetings for the different
giyoups. The. W.A. meeting opened
*ith the members' prayer and
prayers :1)3,- the president, Mrs.
Ulden.r.S

Mrs. Capper gave a welcome• to
the, ladies and it was replied to by
Mrs. Dickson. Minutes of the last
deanery meeting were, read by
the secretary Mrs. E. Rowe. Let-

After a dainty luncheon served
by the 'ladies of Walkerton the
• afternoon session began with the
-election of officers which result-
ed in re-electing the 1942-43 slate.,
A nominating committee was
chosen as follows: Mrs. Walsh,
Kinlough; Mrs. Reinhart, Han-

• ton. Mrs. Beverley of the diocesan

• was the first guest speaker.

The Rev. Harr yt Garbutt Canon
• Townshend introduced the guest
, speaker. Mr. Garbutt then spoke
on his work during his eight yrs,

• Mrs. Paul of `Windsor Spo-ke, on
courage for us to undertake new
•respOnsibilities. Suitable mission-
ary, hymns were sung during the
afternoon. The C. Coast . Mission
fund was raised to $25.00. A lady
present gave a donation for the
purchase of bedding and linen for
Huron College. Each church is to
• be asked for 50 cents to •aid in
this regard-: The National Anthem
and- prayer closed the meeting.
Battery In, New Regiment
The 97th Reserve Battery' of
Walkerton ' is now a member of
the 31st Field Regiment. • This
well trained unit is commanded
by' Major P. S. MacKenzie. Major
Mackenzie and his gunners _were
• officially welcomed into the regi-
ment .by Lt. -Col. H. K. Ingrain,
commanding officer and Major"

extended a very cordial welcome

The high light of .the Session
Was the _visit On Wednesday af-
ternoon of Hon. John Bracken,
leader of the National Progres-;
sive-Conservative party who was
scheduled to address meetings at
Kincardine and Walkerton during
the week and kindly consented to
come to Port Elgin at the special
invitation' of the County Council.

supply of Western grain for the
feeding of hogs aS otherwise hog
production in Bruce County will
be greatly decreased since. crop
production here this Year will not
supply over 50 per cent of our.
past year's production.
• That in protest the recent a-
mendment to the High Schools
Act whereby, themaximum cost -
to the County of pupils attending
secondary schools is increased.

Council on the recommendation
of the ,ReforestatioR Committee
authorized the purchase of an ad-
ditional 32 acres of land adjacent
to the County Forest. The De-
partment. Of Lands and Forests
will be asked to make a survey
of the County and list and map
all -properties that would be suit-
able for 'reforestation. Townships
• and urban municipalities are also
urged to make similar , surveys
with a view to the reforestation
of all waste and untied lands.
The House of Refuge Commit-
tee reported that they had pur-
chased a milking machine at a
cost of $352. In 'its report the
Committee recommended the in-
stalling of a fire annunciator sys-
tem in the House of Refuge at
an estimated. cost of about $2000.
After a full discussion of the mat-
ter Council authorized the system

marriage, Rena Elizabeth, daugh- •
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Hunter
of Ashfield and Mr. Harold Clif-
ford Menary, son of Mr. and Mrs.
William Menary Of Dungannon. -
• The bride lookedlovely in a
blue crepe street length dress,
blue off -the -face hat, and match-
ing apcessories. :She carried a
bouquet of white carnations. Miss -
Marie Swan of Wingham was
bridesmaid wearing a pink crepe
• two-piece . dress, pink pill box
hat and matching accessories. She .
carried a bouquet of pink earn-

dinner was served at' the bride's

- A quiet but pretty: -wedding.
took place at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. John Kennedy of Huron
Township, when their only dau-
ghter Anna Adelaide was unite
in marriage to Mr. Walter Dektff,
only son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Dexter, also of Huron Township.
The ceremony was performed by
Rev. Elmer Kennedy. of South-
ampton, uncle of the bride, as-
sisted by Rev; J. C. Nicholson of
Pine River and Mrs. Elmer -Ken-
nedy was at the organ. •
Given in marriage by her
father, the bride wore a street
length frock of French blue, with
fingertip veil caught with a coro-
net of -orange -blossoins and she
°carried a bouquet of white carn
ations and tulips With sprays Of
maiden hair fern.' • Her only at-,
tendant was Mrs: Howard Robin-
son, sister of the groom, wearing
a frock of old rose and -white. She
also carried a bouquet of tulips
and white lilac with sprays of
maiden hair fern. Mr. John Ken-
• nedy Jr., brother of the bride,
was best man. After theveremongt
the bride and groom led the way
to a tastefully decorated table,
-centered with the wedding cake
and decorated with pink ar-. white
s,treazners. Four girl friends of
thp bride acted ,as Waitresses and
about thirty-five guests sat down..
Later the, bride changed to a ,
brown ,tailored suit with match-
ing accessoriesand, amid best
wishes from 'a -host of friends they -
left for a trip to Toronto, Niagara,'
St. Catharines and other, points.
