The Supreme Court of Canada has
dismissed the appeal seeking a writ
of mandamus to compel the Bolding
of a provincial by-election in Tor-
onto High Park constituency: The
constituency, has been vacant since
the death of the member, W. A.
Baird, in 1940. •

Lucknow Red Cross -met last night
(Wednesday) to plan ,for getting" the
local campaign underway. "Give,
human suffering is greater ' than
ever", is the slogan of this National
Appeal with a minimum objective

Details of the local campaign,are
not yeti known as we go to press, but
it is likely than an office will, be
opened locally to rreceive donations,
with canvassers appointed to com-

Gederich Hospital , on Saturday
'Horning.' He 'had been: ill for over

Mr. Hawkins, who was in his' 73rd
year, was the • son of the late James

born. and, had lived all' his life on
the same . farm. His family was sone
of the most highly esteemed in the
Port Albertedistrict. His wile, low'
rnerly Miss Mary Foster, died 'five
years . ago. He is survived • by one

The funeral service•was held from
Christ Anglican church on Tuesday.

death of 'John McKenzie which .oc-
curred in Colorado, in his 81st Year:
Mr.. McKenzie was born`'' on the
4th. Concession of Culross, .a sbn of

zie. Therehe was raised' and re-
ceived his early education. He later
moved • to the States, settling in
Colorado. On. February 10th he was
struck by an auto while crossing
a street, with death resulting two
days later. The . funei al was held
last Monday, February 15th.
John McKenzie was a brother of
the late A. • b. McKenzie of -Luck-
now. Surviving are two',sisters,'Mrs.
Humphries (Margaret Anne) of Tor-
onto; 'Mrs. Fryfogle (Bessie). of,
Wingham, and a brother, Dr, :Dun-
can McKenzie of Chicago.

Recently' the Unemployment In -

finite- areas' for local' offices, and
Mr. A. J. Schnurr, manager of the
Walkerton' :office advises that the •
Walkerton area now comprises • the
Townships of: Greenock, Brant, Cul=•
miss; Kinloss, . Carrick, Normanby,
Glenelg, Egremont, Bentenick, Ar-
ternesia, Proton, Bruce, Kincardine
and Huron. Residents of all • muni-
cipalities' are included in this area
and from this date should use the
Walkerton ' office for any of their
business in 'eonnecti'on' with Em-
ployment and , Selective Service. •
The Walkerton office, opened Sep--
temberof last year,has not handled
the business' of Unemployment- In-
surance, but commencing with the
issue 'of• the, new .books for 1943-
1944 on April lst, they will fronn
that date • on also combine this .work
with ._that of employment. .
