the bridegroom's gift, • a double
strand • of pearls and matching

Charles Thomson at his home in
Kirkland Lake, 'on Sunday, July
lith. •
He was born in England in 1887
and in his, early teens came ;to
Canada. In 1907 he married and
later moved his , family to :Kin-
loss: He resided in Kinloss for
2Q years, Until -he took up resi-
dence in Kirkland Lake where
he spent the past year. '
Besides' his: wife he leaves: to
mourn, six daughters, Mrs. Rich,
and McQuil•lin ^(Emily) ; Mrs. Mal
lm. Stewart ,(Alice); • Mrs. Len

staged throughout The County to
choose winners to represent the
various 'communities• at •the. grand.:
:pageant' of beauty, being held in I:
Kincardine : on. ` Civic holiday,
started off with. a bang last. • Fri-
day':night.`in Ripley: The. affair,
'which, was. one, of the most suc-
cessful'ever. held, in that district,
was.:attended'by close to 'six hunt
dred localities,with a g o o,d
sprinkling of others from : out . of
town. ••'.
Eleven contestants ,took :part,
four being sponsored, by --the Leg_
ion, . two each by the Junior In-:,
stitute 'and: the Junior' Farmers,'
and one each by the Women's
Institute,' the ?ebeccas and the
Ripley. Flyers softball club. •No
less --than •. nine: were; from the
country,;" with two • from • town.
Miss Mildred Farrell of Huron
Township, sponsored Eby .the Leg-
ion; was , `finally chosen "Miss
Huron -Ripley and it is 'gener-
ally agreed . that she will • place
high in the finals at'Kincardine.
Although: bhe Ripley ` contest
was one of , the last to be .organ-
ized' and the first to be held, very
little m.ore., 'could have been de
sired` in its final staging; .which
speaks volumes for the hard work
of the Cornmittee,''under the•
chairmanship of Reeve .'Howard
McGuire of Huron Township; Mr.
Donald, Blue made ' a splendid
master of ceremonies . and ' Miss
Jean MacLennan presided' at the
piano. Mrs: J. Stanley • Gibson
rn'ost capably coached the con-
testant's in stage' deportment and
acted 'as their guide and mentor
throughout the performance. The
evening was rounded ,off with an
excellent concert and an Old
Time dance followed.*
,"Miss Huron -Ripley" will 4be'
given the place of honor on a
special float being entered bythe
community in the Parade,. of
Beauty, "Sweethearts on Par=
ade", at Kincardine • on August,.
2ndand she''will be escorted ,by
many of her neighbors, from both
town and country in decorated
cars.
