Dark Day, of September 1881,
when 'real' alarm, was.. 'felt and
•Mrs. Treleaven:tells of one Luck

•world, was at hand.. '
•A prolonged drought that had
`parched. fields, and turned wood
lands tinder dry, was the cause
of the Dark Day sixty-nine:.years

,igan, wafted smoke and ash
across the•lake on September 5th,
1881, .to blot out the noonday sun
