DIED.—We have to record the death
if one :of.the oldest. and: most respected
citizens, Wilt. B. Shaw, which took
place on Sunday InOrning, 21St inst.
Air. Shaw,. who was only 41 years of
age, 'came .to this town about 20 yetis
ago, when it wasin its infancy. Daring
that time he has been respected by all
WW1 W1so111 he entne in contact, gaining
many friends by his' genial and open-
bPartel manner. Being a superior ins-•
son, he had assisted in fire erection.

last Saturday night, commencing about
half hast ten o'clock, and resulting in
the complete destruction of Mr, P. i el-
ly"s Saw, shingle and lathe hill, and A.

owned by lir,: Kelly. The flames were
Seen and brought people from as distance
of 12 miles and there 'could not have
been less than 800 People assembled,
rendering malt assistance, and they
succeeded in preventing the file ,from
spreading farther, than Mr. McCreight's
residence, Upwards of 100,000 feet of
lumber was tauriied. Mr,. Kelly's loss
will be about seven thousand' dollars,
and is the second mill which he had de-'
stroyed by fire within two months.
This is the third' mill that has been •
burned on the same premises, during.
which occasions one .man lost his life by
boiler bursting, and another .tan lost
his aria. No •accident, however,odour-
red at this' fire. The mill was insured
in the'Gore Mutual and 'Waterloo Mu-
tual for $2,600, half in each., A quanti-
ty of lumber and shingles were saved,
and also were the contents of Mr. Mc-
Oreight's house. Cause of fire unknown.
