Ashfield Township Council were
swept back into office on Mon-
day. At the ;head .;of the pollby
a consider'a;ble margin, . of 103
votes over his closest ' contender
was. • Councillor .. Cecil Blake,
Councillors John, Bradley, Ken-
neth L. -MacKenzie and Andrew
Ritchie placed..in that order with
only 36 votes, 'separating:' them.
Bradley polled 419, MacKenzie
\409 and' Ritchie 383.' - •

Reeve 'Elmer Graham was re-
turned by acclamation for• ' his

FATAL SATURDAY
Edward McBurney, 54, well-
known East Wawanosh farmer,
was killed Saturday on the 'Mar-
noch sideroad.
•`McBurney was driving his tree-
tor....along the road when the•
machine is believed tohav'e'skid-
ded on the• icy road and •rolled
over into a' . ditch with: one . of
the wheels, pinning him. to • . the
ground. , •
Born. in East Wawanosh, he
was a lifelong, 'resident of the.
:district. He farmed on. Lot 23,
Concession 10. He, :was a member
of Brick United .Church.
Surviving .are his widow, the
former Helen Yuill, his `mother;

Mr. Rod MacDougall had a, fall.
at the Baker Convalescent. Home
on Saturday morning and suffer -
a .' fractured "hip. He was re-
moved by ambulance. to Wingham.
Hospital. Mr. MacDougall' has e}
joyed improved health since go-
ing to the Baker Home several
months ago. His improvement
had been such that he: was able
to be up and around; and out
again. A few • weeks ago he at-
tended the Masonic Banquet, and
it is with -regret that his many
friends learn of ' his misfortune
which has hospitalized him.

TRAIN TILL EARLY MORNING
The ' C.N R. 'night train,' gener-
ally. referred to as the late train
because of its arrival here short-
ly 'before 11 o'clock; , got •badly
mixed up last Friday .,night," when
it vied with the "early" train for.

A mechanical'breakdown near
Brampton delayedthe train'many
hours, and it was;.shortly before
7,00 a.m. Saturday morning when'
the 'late" train reached here. It
took the . siding at Wingham for
the down -bound "early" train, to
pass:

were coming up from Toronto to

whistled overhead. Some twenty-
five shots ruiere fired. He believes

of ,his presence. The incident
happened on 'a Saturday, which
caused' hini to think it might
have been some students who
were out tramping the fields,
and. taking some pot shots. •

Mr. Anderson is not • enjoying

Mrs. Anderson was formerly
Lilly Reed, daughter: of the late
Paul Reed : and Rebecca McGee of

a family of seven: A brother Will
of Galt, and Mrs. Anderson- are
the only members of the .family

• .Mr. Anderson, also an Ashfield-
born citizen, :is a son of the late
David Anderson and Mary Web-
ster. He has two brothers and
two 'sisters • living, Mrs. Isaac An-
drew (Susan)' of Zion; Mrs. 'Sam
Kilpatrick" (EIizabeth) of Dun-
gannon; Dave Anderson, ,Of Recd
Deer, Alta. and Fred of Lucknow.
Mr. and.' Mrs. Anderson were
married at the bride's home fifty
years ago by Rev. F. J. Oaten
of Ashfield Circuit. They took up
farming on the Andersen home-
stead now owned by their son
Gordon, and resided there' con
tinuously until moving to LLuck-
nOW. .
Held in high, esteem by all. Who
know them, ,Mr. 'and, Mrs: Ander-
son have •been exemplary resit
dentsof this "community and are
worthy of all) the .compliments
and `best wishes that are now ex-
tended them. •
They have a family' of ;three
sons and three ` daughters:, who
were all with thein on this happy
occasion.' They are Harvey of

rive in Lucicnow on Saturday of
this week and wants to meet
you all here. He's planning a big
parade at one o'clock, that Will
be. headed by the Lucknow Dis-
trict High, School Band. • .

Playhouse and a bag of sweets

Town children will attend the
show at 10 a.m.. Saturday in,orn-
