He 'was admitted •to the ' hospi=
tal the previous Friday with
,peritonitis that ' had ' developed
•from• a blood. Clot: No hopewas
entertained for hos:' recovery •and
on •Saturda surgery ' was resort-
ed to on, the one Chance. • that
the condition causing the, infec-
tion„ Might not be'•:'as•;•extensive
as had: been; diagnosed. Tie op-
eration •dis'pell'ed that one glim-
mer' of* hope..
Ritchie was born in . Ash=
field Township, , : on September
27th, 1:8.82,: ,and spent his entire
lifetime ...in the . Township ; until
moving ; to Lucknow two. years
ago', last.,i'rovember,, and yet ..one
'could scarcely: say ,he ' had` re-
tired 'for•. he •.still owned a,100'-
acre farm, and was back. 'and
forth as the seasons demanded,
in carrying ont farm' work:
Bob,• as he was familiarly;and
popularly known; was ,a' son of
Andrew Ritchie and Ellen .Hun-
ter; and was one .of a family . of
eight sons and -one ,daughter.
:Forty-seven' years ago he mar-
ried Alice. Gardner- of Zion, .a
daughter. of 'the late Mr. and
Mrs. John Gardner..
The remains' rested at -;the faro''
ily residence in Lucknowr•where
many; called to pay' their respects
and on Sunday . afternoon the
funeral service, • held at the Mc-
Lennan and MacKenzie:, Memor-
ial'. Chapel, was Largely . attend-
ed.. l ;ev: J. R.' Dickinson of Ash-
field Circuit

vice assisted by Rev; G. A. Meik

esteem in :which Mr. Ritchie was
held, and , expressions of, sym
p'athy for the 'bereaved.
