theme "The Importance of the Church
and As Part in the Present World Crisis."
He said he 'knew the Church had Re
shortoomings and failings, yet there is
no agency in the universe. that does so
Dutch for the *mid's 'uplift and good.
What, asked, would the world have:
been Without the Church/ or what would

It even .gives value• to the reitlestate.
Throughout the ages ages- it has been the
tgreatest influence, for the ",establishmerate
of liberty and freedom. Yet he .felt
that we are in this awful iitruggle- he -
cause -Of the failure Church, to do
its work. We often wonder What is the
place of the Church in _them awful days.
The Church, he said, had been, in the
first yeari ot tne war,. the greatest. re-
cruiting agency in the country. 'A 'mil-
itary man had on one eccasion come to
him rued asked leave to speak to the
young men o is congregation in regard
to enlisting. e was obliged to tell the.
military man; however, that if he wished
to speak to the fit young , men of that
congregation he must go to France to
do it, for the young then had all gone
there. if he wiehed to weak to young
men who•should be in khaki but were
not, he should aro to. the theatres I:and
