The • insinuation was that THE SEN-
TINEL was pratically 'bought Up by We-
adtertishig, and that this explained the
editorial support of the Government.
As a matter of. fact at the time The
Sentinel came out in support Of the Goy-

that there would be any advertising by
the Org,nizations supporting the Union
Party; and it cannot be that thesupport
of the press was 'secured in that way.
With respect to the tWO advertisements

• Among other things the, r esolution
contained the statement that "during

in, aniitliereilytiofelati'same
The Sentinel we referred to this resolut-
ion and concluded by saying that the
resolution muck overstated the case in
saying that "hundreds of acres of ei•Op
had. been allowed to rot on the ground
because of kleg lack of men. The state-
ntent amply isn't true." .
A, few days after the paper went out
Mr. A. H. McLean who was secretarY of
the Kintail meeting, celled ns by. tele.
phone, and tusked' on what , authority „we
had challenged the truth of the resolut-
on. • We replied that our statenient was
" based. on our general knowledge of con -
&dens in the townships and elsewhere.
The line wa "bad" and as Mr, McLean
dad not appear • to catch our reply we• .
abbreviated it to "general knowledge,"

Mr. McLean seid that we hail been very
