•stanled the fairs of 1915 and '10, and

bad luck attended events on Fridays:
But Friday turned out fine, • Tiler° was
not even dust to mar the'pleasure of the,
day, and a very successful fair was the
result, Gate receipta (that is what was
actually taken at the gate)amounted to
*379.80. To this receipt; from thecon-
cart added 8238 00, so that the Society
• is in a. fair way to go strong, for another
year. •

exhibition, While cattle, sheep, hogs and'

exhibits were not numerous, but garden

enthusiasm, and the number of entries
in the Ladies' Department, Home Man-

inside exhibit; which attracted moat

Supplies. Not only , were these Un-
usually nuinerons,-but the quality and
appearance were up toa, high standard.
_Relerring,tothese exhibite,..a. gentleman
..who..had visited. many_ fairs throughout
the Province this season, actin asjudge,
•stated that nowherer had he seen an
exhibit of cookery to equal that at Luck-
noiv. • No doubt the Judge who passed
•upon these had a difficult task..

arous drama, "Uncle Bebe," and the
'kale Quartette giving, a nuniber of their
selections The hail Was packed full by
audience which was evidently well

• Dear Mr..' Shore: --Having heard of
rumours .eirculated in Bruce County
that the reason the 160th battalion was
•still, in England was eiat there in lax

in the battalion that we- were not fit to
go to France, we decided the beat thing
to do would-be to write it letter to The
Beacon denying the same. The party
or parties who started the rumours are
neithef a credit tothemselves or to their
country, for a meaner lie could never
,have been started. If such were the
case we should have been broken up and
drafted to France months ago. The
reason we are ifot in France new is on
account of orders from high command,
of the Canadian army which every good
soldier should obey. We have worked
hard, and are in the pink of condition,
and eager to get at the Hun. If (he'
people of Bruce "County ever saw Us
climbing the bilis 'here they would be
proud of us instead of casting slurs at
