-The oar ferry Bessemer sank in
Lake Erie last week owing to the heavy
gales and ber crew of thirty•two men
were drowned. Capt. McLeod, form-
erly of Kincardine was in obarge of the
boat. .
-Mr. J. E. McIntosh was taken sod-
denly ill last week with an acute attack
of appendicitis and underwent an opera-
tion at the hospital on Saturday. Mr.

Shooting Accident in Toronto.
Brooding over the knowledge recently
gained that he was not the eon of the
couple he for years loved as his rather
and mother, and that he was a found-
ling without a name, Jamba MaoMath,.
the adopted eon of Hugh MaoMath, the
well-known real estate broker at Tor-
onto, attempted the life of Mrs. Mao -
Math in her hatne on Wednesday even-
ing of lest week and half an hour later
shot himself dead in the public lavatory
at the corner of Toronto and Adelaide
streets, opposite the post office. While
at supper hP* asked Mrs. MaoMath to get
him a glass of water, She went to the
kitchen and while at the tap heard steps
behind her, Turning she 'saw the
young man in the doorway, and im-
mediately he began firing. Two shots
went wild and the third struck her in
the right breast, but doing little damage,
She closed the door on him and he left
the house almost immediately. Mr and
Mrs. MaoMath are former residents of
Huron county and Mr. MaoMath is a
cousin of Mrs. Gee. 0. Manners, of this
town.
McIntosh has been seriously ill, but
11 bis friends hope for a speedy recovery.

of Miss Margaret W. Hisoox, only
daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.
P. Hiscox, of Wingham, and niece of
Mrs. Barlow, Alexander street, to Mr,
Arthtr M. Penman, of Toronto, only
son of Mre. R. Hobbs, of Exeter. The
wedding takes place Thursday, Decem-
ber 23rd.
