Some of the September records receiv- ed from members of cow testing associ- ations show further remarkable vari- ations in different sections of Ontario and Quebec. It is the exception in the Ontario associations to find less than 600 lb. milk or 201b, butterfat aa an average yield for thirty days. In Qnabec associ- ations the average yields are almost all lower though one or two are well up, even to 7001b, milk and 26 lb. fat. One association in Quebec has a total pro- duction from 23 cows of 17,800 Ib. milk and 775 lb. fat, while in another Quebec asseoiation just a little less than that is the total production of 60 cows; the 60 cows average less than 300 ib. milk. Twenty.three cows in one oase, sixty in the other, which kind of cow would one rather keep? What glowing ponslbilitiee are indicated here! Most likely the 60 cows could be made to give better yields if fed better. The soleotion of the best individuals as revealed by the records, and their mating with good bulls of de - bided dairy descent would give oertain results, better cows in every way, with- out such glaring differences as in this case where the yield of two fairly good cows is more than the total yield of five poor ones. Is Your Family Reading "Worth While"? So nautili of current reading is merely entertaining at best that the question naturally arises. Is it worth while? Your sons and daughters are bound to read something. They hunger for stories which take them into the other half of the world—the world of adventure, of valor, of fortune -making. The problem is to give them such reading without putting into their hands the literature that is either silly or demoralizing. The editors of The Youth's Companion be - neve that a periodical oan be made en- tertaining yet "worth while," and The Companion is conducted on that theory. And that is one reason why more than half a million families read it. The paper is safe but not dull, Its tales of adventure illustrate the advantages of fortitude and self-reliance.
