CHURCH NOTES.
Mr. John Hartley conducted the ser-
vices at St Paul's Chnmh an Sunday,
in the absence of the rector, who had
charge of the anniversary services at
Blyth, Belgrave and Auburn.
Harvest Thanksgiving services will be
held in St Paul's Chnrah on Sunday,
Oot. 3rd. On Monday evening, Oct. 4th,
a Harvest Home •Sapper will be held.
Further particulars next week.
The new English Church hymnals—
The Book of Common Praise—will be
used for the first time in St, Paul's
Church on Sunday next. It is desired
that as far as possible the members of
the congregation supply themselves with
the new books for Sunday next.
Miss Morton, evangelist, who spent
some time here in connection with
special services in the Methodist Church
a few years ago, is visiting friends in
town. Miss Morton occupied the pulpit
of the church on Sunday evening and
delivered a splendid disoourse, which
was listened to with pleasure and profit
by the congregation.
The Epworth League of the Metho-
dist Church held a "poverty social" on
Monday evening, at which there eves a
fair attendance. A very good pro-
gramme was given, and the method of
securing admission fees consisted of
Thug imposed on the patrons of the
event for being too richly coatatned.
The affair was a very pleasant and in-
teresting one.
The A. I. I', A., of St. Paul's Church
held a socia reunion at the home of
Mr. H. Davis on Tuesday evening, when
is farewell was tendered to two of their
tliued to ()ase off, particularly so for
the commonest qualities, and only any'
thing quite obeioe held about steady.
Genoraily speaking, the tone of the
market was weak to day, owing in part
to the feat that oables from the Old
Ooantry show that prices there are
lower and trade easy. This may mean
the throwing a heavier proportion of
]he cattle arriving into the butoher
market.
