Since the Listowel piano faotery

On Tuesday, Aug. 24th, while its

Campbell passed peacefully away at his

Herbert Reeves, aged 30, was lost for
30 da: s in the woods, 40 miles from
Schreiber. During all this time Reeves
lived on berries and roots, and, when
found by Indians, he was exhausted both
in mind and body. Reeves had been
working in a lumber camp, but left over
a month ago to walk overland to the
Canadian Pacific, and was lost en route.
IIe says his home was formerly in Ma-
con, Georgia, and that he had served in
the U S. army.

At the advanced ago of 85 years Wil-
liam Baird passed away at the home of
the late Robert Baird, Durham street,
Kincardine. Deceased was born in Pio-
ton and came here over forty years ago.
He was unmarried and always made his
home with his late brother. He was a
man well liked by those who knew him
being the soul of honor in all matters.

On Thursday, August 26th, the death
of Mrs. H. B. Bennett occurred at the
family residence, Broadway street, Kin-
cardine, after a lingering illness, the last
six months of which she bad been con-
fined to her bed. The deceased's maid-
en name was Margaret Sypes and she
was born in Beverly township in the
county of Wentworth. She was 80
years, 10 months and 29 days of age
when she died. On April 29, 1909, she
and her aged husband celebrated the
6 0th anniversary of their marriage.
After she and Mr. Bennett were married
tney went to Mount Forest to Live and
from there, 37 years ago, came to Kin -
o ardine, where they have resided ever
since, The family consisted of eight,
on e of which died in infancy.

Dsgg aged 76 years. Mrs. Dagg's maid-
en name was Elizabety Howitt. She
was a sister of the late John Hewitt of
Bervie, and also of Mr. Christopher
Hewitt, 5th of Kincardine, She Dame
to Canada from Longford, Ireland,
where Abe was born, nearly half a cen-
tury ago she married James Dagg app
settled on 200 acres on the north line.
By him she had two sons George and
James who now reside in Manitoba.
Her husband passed away a few years
after their marriage and she was again
united 10 William Dagg, the family of
the secogd anion are Frank and William
who live in Manitoba: Mrs, Thomas
Atkinson, Durban line; Mrs. Aikenhead,
and Mrs. Hiram Davie Of London.

A Travelling Man's Experience.
"I must tell you my experience on an
East bound 0, R. & N. R. R. train from
Pendleton to Le Grande, Ore., writes
Sam A. Garber, a well known traveling
man. "I was in the smoking depart-
ment with some tither traveling men
when one of them went out into the
coach and name back and said, 'There
is a woman sink unto death in the oar.'
I at once got up and went out, found
her very ill with cramp colic; her hands
and arms were drawn up eo you could
not straighten them, and with a death-
like Look on her face. Two or three
ladies were working with her and giving
her whiskey. I went to my suit case

LOCAL NEWS.
Mr. F. G. Sperling, of this town, has
growing in his garden a snufiowsr, on
which there are 60 heads or flowers.
Mr. Thos. Bell shipped to a gentleman
in Morden, Manitoba, who is engaged in
the undertaking business, on Saturday
last, a splendidly matched team of blank
horses, which Mr. Bell purchased in
Teeswater.
Mr. John Rutherford, bookeeper at
the Union factory, and wife, intend go-
ing to the old country during this month.
They will sail by the Allan line. The
journey is made for the benefit of Mrs.
Rutherford's health,
Mr. Arch. Taylor, formerly of, Bel -
grave, and latterly with Mr. A. W.
Webster, of this town, has purchased
the grocery business of Mr. Noah
Parent, of Windsor, and taken pos-
session.
On Monday evening last Mr, J. J.
Anderson and several members of his
family returned from Melita, Manitoba,
where they have been for some time.
Mr. Anderson speaks in glowing terms
of the country, and says that notwith
standing the dry weather experienced in
the section of country in which his land
is situated, the crops will be fully up to
the average.
Several left on the 0. P. R. excursion
to Manitoba, on Tuesday last. Amongst•
those going were a Mr. Diokson and.
wife, of Brussels; Mr. A. Armstrong,
wife and son, of Morris, and Mr. John.
Coutts, wife and children, of East Wa-
wanosh.
We learn that the firm of Homnth &
Buchanan, boot and shoe and harness
makers, has been dissolved, Mr. Homnth
retiring from the business.
On Monday morning, Mr. Thos. Bell
started bis furniture faotory after a
lapse of about eight weeks, caused by
the faotory being partially destroyed by
fire. A new frame building, two stories
high, has been erected and other im-
provements have been made.
On Sunday morning last, a little after
four o'clock, the fire alarm sounded, and
it was soon discovered that the fire was,
in a couple of stables nearly in the rear

The Tibetan Yak.
Thorecent arrival of the five Tibet-
an yz"k, in Canada means a great deal
to. the Dominion, declares Ernest Se-
ton Thompson, the well-known,natur-
alist, who was- instrumental in.seeur-
ing them from. the Duke of Bedford.
It is -'hoped in time to effect, a con-
quest of that vast stock -range which
lies between the especial domain of
the common cattle and the reindeer,
and which at >; present is lying idle.
This area is at least equal to all the
cattle ranges hitherto utilized' in Am-
erica. It is at present only -inhabited
by a few trappers and Indians and
by lumbermen on the edges. At-
tempts to utilize it for cattle by
crosses between the American buffalo
and the long-haired cattle of the
Highlands have failed because of the
unmanageable character of the buf-
falo. But the yak, or woolly ox, has
been formed by nature for the north-
ern ranges, and has long been domes-
ticated by man. Its native Tibetan
haunts on the snowelad, rocky still -
sides and mount'a.ins extend even up
to 20,000 feet, higher than the range
of any other animal.
Experiments prove that the yak
thrives equally well near sea -level, as
at Shanghai, Nice, Paris, Antwerp,
and Woburn_ Park, in England. as'weil
as .in the London Zoological Glardend.'
