Bayfield Post And Zurich News, 1982-05-09, Page 3FROM THE pastor's Desk PRAYER POSTURE - Luke 18:9-14 When we pray, God is not ,-is concerned about our physical Posture, as He is about our HEART ATTITUDE: As we read our Bibles, we discover that some of the Old Testament servants of the Lord fell on their faces before God. Others stood with uplifted eyes. Jesus sometimes knelt in Prayer. The Publican stood with bowed head, and smote on his breast when he spoke to God saying - "God be merciful to me - a sinner:' When the Apostle Paul admonished us to "Pray without Ceasing" (I Thessalonians 5:17,)he implied the appropriateness of any position: Someone has vividly expressed the truth of this in a humorous little poem that reads as follows: "The proper way for a man to pray, said deacon Lemuel Keys, the only proper Attitude - is down upon his knees: Nay, I should say, the way to pray, said Reverend Doctor Wise, Is standing straight with outstretched arms, with rapt and upturned eyes: Oh no, no no said Elder Snow, such posture is too proud, A man should pray with eyes fast closed, and head contritely bowed. It seems to me his hands should be, austerely clasped in front. With thumbs pointing to the ground, said Rev. Doctor Blunt: Last year I fell in Hodgkins well, head- first said Cyril Brown, With both my heels a stickin up, my head a pointin down: And T done prayed - right then and there, best prayer I ever said: The prayinest prayer I ever prayed, a standin on my head; The essence of true prayer 5s to come tc: God humbly, reverently, gratefully an d sincerely - sensing your total dependence upon Him for His forgiveness and His help. God sees the heart, and if that is right, He will hear you, r.o+ ma*tter where you are, or what your physical posture happens to be; I often say my prayers - but do I ever pray? And do the wshes of my heart, go with the words I say? For words without the heart - the Lord will never hear; Nor will He to those lips attend, whose Prayers are not sincere; THOUGHT - What natters most in Prayer is not body position, but rather Heart Condition: Submitted by - Pastor les Shi el Bayfield Baptist Church Page 3 Join us Sunday, May 9th at The Little Inn We are featuring a delightful MOTHER'S DAY BRUNCH served 12 Noon until 2:30 p.m. $1050 $60o adults . children. . or, treat Mother to one of our always special Dinners served 5:30 to 8:30 Sunday FREE SWEETHEART ROSE FOR EACH MOTHER MAY 9th, Reservations Please 565-2611 Bayfield, Ontario CLEA RVIC SALE 20% off all D'Orlan Jewellery - Pierced earrings, necklaces, some pins.
