On Sunday, the 18th July, there pas-
sed at ray one of the oldest residents
of Greg township in the person of Mrs
Wm. Molaschlan, who for the past
eighteen years hoe made her hems with
her daughter, Mrs. R K. MoDouald,
Orenbrook. Mrs. Maim elan's maiden
name was Mary MaInde°. She was
born in Dumbartonshire, Scotland, June
20th, 1824. About 58 years ago she was
married in Glasgow to Win. MoLaoh-
lan who predeceased her 26 years ago.
It is a remarkable coincidence that hus-
band and wife diedupon the same date
and the same hour. Two children sur-
vive their mother. These are Mrs.
Hugh Cunningham, Grey, and Mrs. R.
K. McDonald, Cranbrook,—Robert and
Mary deoessed. Being a resident of
Grey, for about half a century Mrs. Mo.
Lachlan was known to a wide circle of
friends, who remember her kind hospit
ality. Sae was a member of the Pres-
byterian church, to whioh she was al-
ways loyal.

There are 77 grandchildren living and
32 great-grandchildren.

vacation began, at hie home near
Beaohville, Ont. Mr. Langdon will
have the sympathy of this community

Tho trustees of the Whitfield pnblio
sohool, 12th Con., have engaged the
services of Mise Ida Frain. daughter
of ex-Oounoillor Frain, at a salary of
$400 00 per annum, duties to commen-
ce at the opening of the Fall term.
Miss Frain is a Normal trained teach-
er and should do well. Robt. Forrest,
of Morris, 'who has been teaching in
this school, talks of going to the
Welt.
One of the well-known residents of
Grey township in the person of Mrs.
RcArt McAllister, sr., died on Friday
morning, July 22nd, at the home of her
son-in-law, Job King, lot 30, con. 1,
Grey, in her 88th year. The deoeased,
Jane McAllister, was born in Scotland
on the 28th of February, 1822, and came
to Canada in the year 1830, living first
in the vicinity of Montreal,near Laohute,
from there moving to St. Therese, and

meeting (with the exception of a change
in the grade of elope on the north
branch of the Hallahan drain which
should have read 18 inches to the foot
from stake 60 to culvert at the sideroad,
viz, the sandy portions, instead of 18
inches to the foot on the whole north
branch of said drain) read and passed.
Communication from Wm. Lane, Co.
Clerk, received stating that the amount
required from the township this year for
oonnty purposes was $2670.95. Re-
solved that a further sum of $2 927 for
township purposes, township ehare of
drainassessments, salaries, eto., and
$3,500 for township grant to schools, in
all $7,097.95 be levied and raised off the
