GROWING ALARM By Bob Burton
When is the end coming? Will it come?
Will my children grow up? What is their
future?
These are questions a lot of serious people
of all ages and walks of life are asking them-
selves these days.
President Reagan not long ago was talking
about the possibility of a limited nuclear
war. A temporary loss of sanity. We hope.
Brezhnev is in Germany now issuing warnings
and threats of nuclear disaster. He has re-
jected President Reagan's proposal to reduce
nuclear arms in Europe as a propaganda ploy.
The way these two leaders rant and rave about
the deployment of nuclear missiles would be
amusing if it wasn't bordering on the
catastrophic.
One stupid mistake, one stupid error, one
stupid misunderstanding, one stupid act of
senility, one stupid act of passion or of
madness and the missiles are on their way.
It is too late then. Nothing can turn them
back. Civilization is at an end. Countless
millions upon millions of innocent men, women
and children will die with all their dreams,
hopes and ambitions with them.
A horror story that defies the imagination.

The fact that Reagan and Brezhnev are both
over 70 does not tilt the world scale toward
survival. They have both lived their life.
Both only have a few years left at most.
Both have perhaps forgotten what a two year
old, an eight year old, an eighteen year old
are like and how they search and crave after
knowledge and life.
The young search after life while world
leaders search after ways to destroy it.
More and more people want to stand up and
be counted. They want to tell these world
leaders that this insane build-up of mass
destruction will indeed lead to its ultimate
purpose, the destruction of man.
The end of man and civilization is only a
button away. What consummate madness led us
to this abyss.
Perhaps with a change of heart on the part
of East and West we can still turn back.
Perhaps.
