FROM THE Pastor's Desk
MY DAD KNOWS GOD!
Recently I was reading an interesting story
that a man told about his son. I'd like to
share the story with you as readers today.
When my son was a small boy, playing with
his buddies in the back yard, I overheard
them talking one day, and the conversation
was, amusingly, one of those "My Dad can
whip your dad" routines: 1 heard one boy
proudly say: "My Dad knows the Mayor of
our Town:" Then I heard another say:
"That's nothing, my Dad knows the Governor
of our State:" Wondering what was coming
next in the program of bragging, I then
heard the voice of my own son suddenly say:
"That's nothing - my Dad knows GOD:"
I swiftly slipped away from my place of
eavesdropping with the tears running down
my cheeks. I was suddenly stricken with
the awesome privilege and responsibility
that was mine: I dropped upon my knees in
the privacy of my room and prayed earnestly
and gratefully: "Oh God - I pray that my
boy will always be able to say "Mv Dad
knows God:"
I know how that little boy felt, for I too
can say without hesitating, "My Dad knows
God: All my life my Dad has known God.
He has been an example of faithfulness
before me as long as I can remember.
A verse of scripture comes to mind when I
think about my Dad's faith. 2 Timothy
chapter 1 and verse 12 - "Nevertheless
I am not ashamed - for I KNOW WHOM I HAVE
BELIEVED, and am persuaded that HE is able
to keep that which I have committed unto
HIM against that day:"
How could I ever forget my High School
commencement. My Dad was the speaker. At
the time I wanted him to take it easy - but
Dad didn't know any other Gospel than what
was in the Bible. Sin is Sin - Salvation is
Salvation. And my Dad challenged us students
and fellow graduates to a life of Surrender
and Service for Jesus Christ the Son of God.
Why did he speak so plainly? Because he
was committed, and he was and still is
PERSUADED. I thank God today for my Dad -
his stand, his faith, and his trust in the
Lord Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Saviour.
I remember a day early in my ministry when I
went to my Dad - troubled by a problem that I
was facing. He reminded me of God's FAITHFUL-
NESS, and assured me that God was still in
control and always working things out for our
good and His glory. He is able to keep or to
guard whatever we entrust to His care & keeping.

Now how about you who read these lines today
do you know God in a personal way? If not -
listen carefully to the words of scripture
found in the book of Job chapter 23:
verses 21-23 - "Acquaint NOW thyself with
HIM - and be at peace: thereby good shall come
unto thee. Receive I pray thee the LAW from
His mouth, and lay up HIS words in thine heart.
If thou return to the ALMIGHTY thou shalt be
built up, thou shalt put iniquity far from
thy tabernacles -- Verse 26 - For then thou
shalt have delight in the ALMIGHTY and shalt
lift up thy face unto God:"
Here is a little poem that may help you to
come to KNOW GOD in a personal way - it is
entitled -
"HE DIED FOR ME:"
Was it for ME He (Christ) bowed His head?
Upon the CROSS and freely shed
His precious blood - that crimson tide,
Was it for ME - the Saviour died?
It WAS for ME - Yes, all for ME
Oh love of God - so great - so free
Oh wondrous love - I'll shout and sing
He died FOR ME - My Lord and King.
Galatians 2:20 - "The Son of God - WHO LOVED
ME and GAVE HIMSELF for me:
