Sunday, June 27th, an old and well
known resident of the 14th con , in the
person of Wm. Blake, paid N atnre'a
debt, aged 70 years. His health has not
been very robust for the past few years
but was Able to be about until a month
ago. Dedeesed wait born in Co. Clare,
Irelaud, and came to Amerioa when a
boy, living first in the state of New
York. In 1862 the family moved to this
township, being among the that settlers
and located on lot 6, Don. 18 and later
aognired the farm upon which Mr,
Blake lived. He was a faithful member
of the R. 0, Church; a Ltberai in poll,.
tics and was highly esteemed by a wide
oirole of friends and was well worthy of
it. In 1870 Mr, Blake was united in
marriage to Mise Bridget Rowland, wbo
with 8 children (viz: Dennis, of Walton;
Patrick, of B. C ; Dr. John, of Detroit;
and Wm., Geo„ Louis and Misses Ellie
and Edith at home) survive, All were
present at the funeral exeeptiug Pat-

The wedding took plaee at Goderioh
on Wednesday of 1,at week of Miss
Minnie Elizabeth MoVittte, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs, William MoVittie, to Dr,
Leonard Nelson Whitley of Gerrie, at
the residence of the bride's parents.)
The ceremony was conduoted by Rev.
J. A. Anderson. The bride's costume
was of white taffeta, prinoess style,
with panel front of rose point lame and
bridal veil caught with a wreath of
orange blossoms, and the wore the gift
of the groom, a pendant of pearls and
amethysts. Dr. and Mrs. Whitley left
for Muskoka, after which they will
settle at Gorrle.

Still another of the old residents of
this locality has passed over to the silent
majority. On Friday morning, June
25th, after a somewhat prolonged ill -
nese, Mr. John Knox, of Howiok, died,
He was born in Berwiokshire, Scotland.
in the year 1829. When quite a young
man he came to Canada, For some
years he resided at Ayr, where he fol-
lowed the trade of a miller. While
there he was married to Christens
Cowan, who predeceased him some
three years ago. He settled on the
farm, on whioh he died, about tee year
1868. By industry and care he acquir-
ed two good farms, thus leaving his
family in very comfortable oiroum-
etanoes. Three sons. William, James
and Adam, and one daughter Maggie
are Left to mourn a very affectionate
and indulgent father. His only near
relative in this country, died twenty
years ago. The deceased was a most
consistent member of the Presbyterian
Church, Wroxeter. He was oheraoter-
ized by honesty and uprightness in all
his business transactions. His home
was ever open to his many friends who
cannot forget his unstinted hospitality.

"Sunny Side," the home of Jams
and Mts. Gibson, 9th line, Morris, was
the scene of a very pretty wedding on
Wednesday, June 23rd, when their
daughter, Miss Minnie S., became the
bride of Simpson J. McCall, of the same
township, Promptly at high noon, to
the strains of a beautiful wedding
maroh played by Miss Belie McCall, of
Toronto, sister of the groom, the words
whioh linked two young hearts as one,
were pronounced by Rev, W.H. Cooper,
of Blyth. Ceremony was performed on
the large verandah which was tastefully
deoorated with flowers, white draping
and wedding bell. The bride was given
away by her father and looked charm-
ing in a dainty gown of white silk, with
bridal veil and lily of the valley. She
carried a large baguet of white roses,
lily of the vaIIey and fern. The bride
and groom were attended by the
groom's little niece, Verna McCall, as
flower girl and little James Taman,
nephew of the bride, as page. Guests to
the number of one hundred and twenty
ware served to a dainty luncheon in the
large dining room which was beautiful-
ly decorated with ferns, myrtle and
white fiowere, after which the happy
couple, amid showers of white blossoms,
confetti and rice,, boarded the train for
London, Chatham, Toronto and other
points, The wedding gifts were beauti-
ful and well aeleoted. Groom's gift to
the bride was a pearl saaburst; to the
organist a pearl and gold necklace land
to the little attendanta gold signet rings.

The marriage of Miss Emma Edgar,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Edgar,
12th oon., Culross, to Mr. James H,
Haines of Dungannon, was celebrated
at the home of her parents on the even•
ing of June 23rd, at 5 o'clock. Rev. H.
Watson of Salem officiated in the
presence of about one hundred guests.
The wedding maroh was played by Miss
Thirza Melvin. The bride, who was
neattended was given away by her
father, and during the ceremony the
oontraoting parties stood under an arch
of evergreens decorated with flowers.
The bride's dress was of white Persian
lawn, trimmed with white lane and in.
aortion. She carried a bouquet of rases,
carnations and maidenhair ferns.
Gueata were present from St. Marys,
Bayfield, Wroxeter and Fordwioh.
After the eujoyment of a tastofolly
arranged luncheon the guests spent the
evening pleasantly with music and in
social intercourse. Among many hand-
some presents to the bride was a gold
watch and chain, the gift of the groom

A quiet but pretty wedding was son
emnized at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Geo. Henderson on Wednesday, June
30th, when their nieoe, Miss Lily Hen-
derson, was united in marriage to Mr.
Jas. Leitch of Whitechurch, by Rev,
Mr, Cooper. Promptly at five, the brid-
al party entered the parlor to the strains
of Lohengrin's bridal chorus played by
Miss Minnie Nethery, of Belgrave. The
bride looked very pretty in white lawn
trimmed with valenoiennes lace and
insertion and carried a bognet of carna-
tions. After the ceremony the guests
sat down to a sumptuous wedding repast
served on the lawn. The bride's travel-
ling suit was of bine poplin with silk
waist to match. Mr. and Mrs, Leitch
will reside in Whitechurch. The Thies
joins in extending congratulations.
