—At a meeting of the Fire, Water and
Light Committee on Monday evening,

for this season.
—Mr. Thos. Forbes, of the Blnevale
Road, has purchased from Mr. W. F.
VanStone the lot on which stood the
old slaughter house ,whioii was burned
some time ago.
—Mr. Walter Carruthers received a
nioe gift, a watch chain charm, out out
of pure silver with his initials mounted
in gold, from his old friend, Mr. R. W.
Hastings, of New Ontario.
—Messrs. J. W. Pearen and W. W.
Hough are the delegates from Maitland
Lodge I. 0. 0. F. to the annual meeting
of the Grand Lodge of Ontario, which
will be held in Ottawa in August.
—The new serial story, "The
Mystery" will be started in the Trues
next week. Now is a good time to

—Felix Hanlon, an old resident of
Clinton, who for the past six or seven
years had made his home in Goderioh
with:hie son-in-law, James Doan, passed
away on Monday, at the age of eighty-
five years.
—Mrs. John Terriff will remove to
Stratford next week, where Mr. Terriff
has been employed for some time.
Their residence on the corner of John
and Frances streets will be occupied by
Mr. J. H. Christie.
—Messrs. 3. A. Taylor, B. A. and
J. C. Smith, B. A., of the Wingham
High,Sohool, have been seleoted by the
Education Department to read eeamina•
tion:papers for Teachers' Certificates at
Toronto during the holidays.
—The Singer Sewing Machine Co.

—The Citizens' Band held the first
concert for the season in the park on
Friday evening last, Many of the
townspeople listened to the exceIIent

—Many people were of the opinion that
all records were broken during last
month in the matter of rain, but this is
not the case. The report of the rain-
fall for:May, 1009, shows 8.91 inches,
while the Sarno month last year there
were 4.74 inches.
—The:Provincial Government has de•
oided not to appoint at the present time
a sueoepeor to the late Col. J.E. Rankin,
K. 0., farmer provincial drainage
referee, George Henderson, K. O., of
Ottawa, referee for eastern Ontario will
do the work for the whole province.
—The annual High Court meeting of
the Catladian Order of Foresters will
be held in London
