NOTES AND COMMENTS
The annual meeting of the West
Heron Liberal Association, for the,
election of ofii.oere and regular bnsinese ,
will he held in Gederioh, en 3iondea,'
June 7th.
The first session of the eleventh par.
Ilameut of Canada was prorogued
Wednesday afternoon of lest week, by
his Excellency the Governor Genera),
with the usual pomp and circumstance.
The session, which has lasted just four
menthe, has been one of the shortest
in many years, and, with the exception
of the debate on the question of Can-
ada's part in naval defenc), has been
pethape one of the most uneventful.
In all a hundred and sixty-one bills have
been p eased, of which some forty have
been Government measures.
There seem to be eome who defend
divorce by Senate committee, not be -
cense it, raises a high standard in the
matter of evidence, but beoanee it makes
divorce diffiouit and costly to get, no
matter what the evidence may be. The
meaning of this is that a rich woman
can got a divorce when a poor woman
cannot. Those who oppose divorce al-
together are in a logical and repeated
position; but those who propose to make
it a luxury for the wealthy, instead of a
rare act of justice equally available for
all citizens, neither exemplify login nor
command respeot.—Montreal Star.
Agriculture is stili the basin indus-
try of Oanada, and likely to remain
so for all time, though other forms of
natural wealth will make the Dominion
one of the greatest manufacturing
countries of the world. The area of
occupied farm land in Canada last
year was 78,486,000 acres, the vain°
of which is estimated at $2,800,000,000.
In the same year the area of field
crops was 27,500,000 acres, with a
product value of $432,534,000, white
the value of five stook on farms and
ranches was 5531,000,000. Every year
sees great additions to the area under
Cultivation. Within the next decade
the figures may be doubled.
Whatever else the eleotions made
clear they demonstrated that if one
member of Parliament wants to con-
demn another on moral grounds he
"unit stand up and make hie charge like
a man cr.:d a Parliamentarian. This the
present Opposition have never dared do.
Whether this be the cause or not the
heart seems to have gone out of the gay
buccaneers who for the past few sessions
carved and hacked at every man's repu-
tation as the evil spirits moved them. In
part the diaoonragement is no doubt due
to Choir decreased numbers, Kr. Fow-
ler, Dir. Bennett, Mr. Bergeron, Mr,
Oookshntt are no more in camp, and
they were all experts in that particular
brand of hostilities.—Edmonton Bul-
letin.
REMARKS OFA RAMBLER.
To the Editor of the Tams:
Dear Sir,—In taking a stroll through
the country and comparing general ap-
peeranees with ten or twelve years ago,
one sees many improvements, and yet
tlome places are going bank. Passing a
farm we were familiar with and often
admired, ten years ago there was a row
Iwo'°" of abont twenty oherry trees from the
road to the house; they were a picture
When in bloom or Iater laden with fruit
to -day, the stumps aro there. When
the Scotch farmer died, the trees ware
neglected, black knot took poeeesaion
and rained them. About two hours
each year would have saved them. . , .
Lambe are numerous this year; we
noticed 6 ewes and 10 Iambs in one
:flock Many fields of oats and'
peas are nicely up, and the Work of
onitiveting the land seams to have better
attention than formerly; stones picked,
fonees neat and in good repair. A num-

alfalfa, with lucerne and redtop, were
alto in evidence. Tile alfalfa wan from
5 to 7 inches high; our limestone hill::

Dr. Williams' Pink Pills Brim
Health and Strength to Wo-
men at a Critical Time.
Yew wonienlreaoh the age of fifty
without enduring much suffering and
anxiety. Between the years of forty
five and fifty health becomes fickle and
conte weaknesses arise with rheumatic
attacks, pains in the baok and sides,
frequent headaches, nervone ailments
and depression of spiritp.
The sooret of good health between
fortyflve and fifty depends upon the
blood supply, If it is kept rich, red
end pare, good health will be the re-
sult, and women will pass this critical
usage in safety. Dr. Williams' Pink
Pills help women of mature years as no
other medioine can, for they make the
rich, red blood that means go.. health,
and brings relief from auff:riug. Mrs.
O Donavon, Newcastle. •..13., says:—
"About two years ago I as greatly run
down and very miser. +le. I did not
know what we wron • with me. I was
*rdiy able to . : g yeelf about, had
severe headaoh: and no appetite. I
felt so wretched that I hardly oared
whether I lived or not. I had often
read of what Dr. Williams' Pink Pills
had done for others and I deoided to try
them, and I can now truthfully say I
toned them all they are recommended
as be. Under their use my health
gradually came bank; I could eat better,
Weep better and felt stronger in every
way, and before long I was enjoying as
good health as ever I bad done."
Dr. Williams' Pink Pills cure by- go-
ing to the root ot the trouble in the
blood. They aotually make new blood.
That is why they cure such trouble as
rheumatism, neuralgia, indigestion,
kidney troubles, headaches, sideaches
and backaches, and the ailments of
growing girls and women of mature
years. Sold by all medicine dealers.

THE DANDELION.
Dear Sir,—Three stanzas of rough
doggerel, entitled, "Reflections on the
Dandelion," appeared in some of the
Toronto papers reoently, and were
esolated into one of our local papers.
They were evidently written by some
ane, who is either ignorant or lacking in
taste, or else bitterly prejudiced against
this wild flower. May I crave space fora
few words in defense of the "gold
among the green." The dandelion be-
longs to the largest, oldest and most
widely diffused order of plants. While
many orders of plants have died out and
bee.me mere fossil remains in the rooks,
this order has survived the geological
ohaeges of many different periods, be-
cance it possessed the power of adapting
itself to these ohanges. We find mem-
bers of the order in overy part of the
world. It is the dominant order of
vegetable life, the most entirely success.
ful family of plants. It is found only
where man is found, and where he
dwells and cultivates the sail. It fol•
louts him wherever he goes, America,
Aaeiralia, New Zealand, it is the con•
etant companion and unchanging fol.
lower of man in all his wanderings.
The dandelion is generally Iooked upon
ar a mean, insignificant weed, that ob-
tradea itself upon the lawns, gardens
sad meadows where it is not wanted.
Men take the utmost pains and use their
best endeavor to root it out and destroy
it. And yet it is described by all natur-
abate, as a far higher type of plant life
them the rose or the lily, than even a
eedar, an oak or a palm. It's flowers
sae more perfectly formed, and it's type
of structure is more highly organized,
than these beantifaI dowers and magnifi.
Gent trees. In the spring, it is amongst
oar earliest wild Bowers. Dotted over
the grass an our lawns, along the edge
of the pavements in our streets, on
essry bit of waste ground, it unfolds its
nanny blossoms. It ie not niggardly of
its beauty, nor proudly aristooratio as
to its aseooiatione, blit it gives to the
poor and rich alike, the brightness and
beseaty, the gold and glory of its bloom.
ing. I have seen many beautiful eights
in my life time, but one of the moot
beieatifn), was a bank of the finest
eland°lions, massed in large beds agatnat
a background of the most brilliant
green. That is a picture I shall never
forget. May God open the eyes of the
people that they may see the beauty of
our common roads, in the scattered gold
of the dandelion. It is one of the meet
beautiful creations of God's artiatio
flngare,
Yours, a Nature Lover,
W. G. I3oW6ox.
Live Stock Markets.
West Toronto, May 24.—(Speoial.)—
There was a noticeable absence of the
big export buyers again to -day at the
If :sten Stook Yards. This fact, in addi•
tion to the extraordinary demands made
by many of the drovers, made trade
e.'ow and uninteresting this morning.
There seemed to be a universal tendenoy
amongst the men from the country to
