The I,ueknow Women's Institute
will hold their annual summer meet-
ing in Carnegie Hall on June 8th,
at 2.30,, P.M. Mrs. M. E. Lowe, of
Toronto, will address the meeting.
This lady comes most highly recom-
mended. Mrs. Lowe was for some
time superintendent of Dr. Temple's
private hospital, as well as of the
Montague pirvate hospital. She is
deegly interested' in Ifistitute woe -
and has rendered very acceptable
service as a demonstrator of home -
nursing and first aid. Members are
asked to kindly bring sandwiches
and cake, as refreshments will be

Copeland are attending Conference
at Stratford this week. The former
will preach, next Sunday in St. And-
rews Presbyterian church Stratford.
Mr. Austin Solomon had the mis-
•lortune one day last week while
at work helping 'to pull down a
building to have a couple 'of bones in
the, left hand fractured. The injury
though very painful is rapidly mend-
ing.
The vilage Council has had a good
bit of work done the past week in
grading and otherwise fixing up the

Miss Etta Johnston is visiting
her sister Mrs. Geo. Haigh at Sea -
forth. Mr. Haigh who has been ser-

A change has been made in the
Bervie Methodist Circuit, to take eff-
ect the beginning of the year. Here-
to fore Bervie Purple Grove Kinloss,
Armow, Millarton and Zion formed
this Circuit. A vote was put to the
people and they agreed to the change
being made without one dissenting
vote. There will be two appointments
-Bervie, Purple Grove and Kinloss
forming one and known fts, Bervie
Circuit; An/low, Millarton and Zion
the other and known as the Armow
Circuit with a superintendent over
each
During the last church year Caxia-
.dian Methodism lost a total of 81
preachers from active ministery • 31
• by resignation and 50 by superannua-
tion. In the saute year there were
bnlyl 24 young men .-received as candi-
dates for the ministry. That means
a net loss to the church of 57 clergy-
men., These figures were given by
Rev. R. J. D. Simpson, superannua-
tion fund treasurer, and the natural
deduction he thinks is that the low
salaries paid to the preachers are
keeping some bright young men out
of the ministry.

struthers proved ideal entertainers
and a very pleasant time was spent.
During the evening `Mr. Robertson
was presented on behalf of his friends
with a gold watch and fob and a com-
plimentary address was 'read to him.
Mr. Robertson was a lifelong resident
ofaramount, he was a good farmer
and an excellent neighbor, and on
leaving he takes with him the best
wishes of a very large circle of friends
Mr. Robertson . acknowledged the }lift
and address in a short speech.

BIG RECEPTION TO
RETIJRNED SOLDIW.'R
Robert Barbour, sun of Mr. Archie
Barbour, and the late Mrs. Barbour
of town, arrived in Lucknow with
his English bride, on Tuesday night
of this week. Mx. Barbour is the last
Lucknow soldier to return from over-
seas, and there wbs a monster crowd
accompanied, by the Band, at the stat-
ion, to give 'him a welcome home.
Mr. avid Mrs. Barbour were escort-
ed to his father's home by the Re-
ception Commitee, where an informal
reception was held and • the , returned
than was presented with an address
and a purse of money on behalf of
the people of Lucknow.
As is known by many of our read-
ers, Mr. Barbour -had the misfortune
to be totally blinded while in France.
He was at, the last battle of Mons,
and - just, one hour before fighting
ceased and sixteen hours before the
Armistice was signed, he was wound-
ed by a stray bullet which cut across
both eyes. On returning to England
and being treated in hospital he gas
educated at St. Du,►stt-i,►'s Schot/I
where he learned typeW iting, knitt-
ing and poultry farming. Apart
from .his blindness Mr. Barbour is
in excellent health. Isle was mar-
ried about two months ago to a
young English woman ,who being
brims ar}d- heerful_: makes an.- .:$,i-:
cellent companion.

as Toronto to meet his son and his

this vicinity re -opened last Sunday

A quiet but pretty • wedding. took
place at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
S. D.' A. A. Stubo Friday May - 28
when Lizzie their youngest daughter
became the wife of Mr. William Keith
youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. John
Keith of Teeswater. Rev.. W.A. Brad-
ley officiating. The bride who was
given away by her father wore a
charming dress of cream crepe -de -
chine - embroidered with rope silk.
After the ceremony the guests par-
took of a dainty wedding diiuier
after which the happy couple left
for Toronto Niagara and other points
the bride travelling in a navy blue
suit and white picture hat. On
,their return th+.'y will live on the
greom's farm, 'Con. 4 Culross. Best
wishes 'go with them for a long' and
happy wedded life. .
