THE TRAIN SERVICE
.The B .Cunt Gounei in'. se
.,.. p ty 1 $.
iota t:est week pu:secia resolution sulutio:n re
co ri iiding`that'the train service to
truce County be changed so that
trains arriving from Toronto reach
points in Bruce County about mid-
day instead of at night as -at present
When we have but one incoming
and one outgoing passenger train
per 'day the mid-day service would on
.the whole be much more satisfactory.
It would be much more satisfactory
for mail service, though not so good
for those making a trip to Toronto
and return. '
With a mid-day service we would
get our newspapers on the day on
which they are printed, and business
correspondence could be read and
much of it answered by the outgoing
mail of the same day.
As it is a letter- arrives about 11 -
p.m. and is not delivered -..untie -after' -
the outgoing train has gone. A re-
ply cannot go out -.until the second
morning after the letter arrives..
-.The morning and night service tot
is -not so satisfactory to: those -served
by the rural mail delivery, especially
where delivery. can be made in the
afternoon.
The situattloll is bad -enough, 'but

there is talk of cutting clown the
freight service as well as the pas-
senger service. It appears that the
Grand Trunk Ry: Co. had been run-
ning along with -a rather -narrow mar-
gin of fuel on hand. It'takes money
to keep up a big reserve of coal. The
Canadian Pacific was able to do this,
but the *G. T. R. being hard run finan-
