But what about man's best friend? Thanks to a special delivery, Sea- forth's four -legged friends in need won't have to go without this winter. Arriving by truck, skids of pet food and cat litter found their way to the Sea - forth and District Food Bank on Nov. 14, donated by Pet Valu stores in Lon- don, Exeter and Listowel. District manager of Pet Valu London, Leona Hegger, said a manager out west who was originally from Seaforth brought the idea to her after she heard about the fire that destroyed the grocery store last April. "I'm from a small town myself," said Hegger, who is originally from Ingersoll. "It's all about the small town feel, when something happens you pull together." "Everyone wants to take care of their animals and we don't want to see a bit of food being the different between someone having a pet for a long time and them having to get rid of it" According to food bank coordinator, Herb McGowan, many residents who visit the food bank have pets at home, creating an extra need that can't always be provided. "People don't often think of hunger extending to the pet domain and a lot of food banks, including our own, often don't have the luxury to have these things on hand," explained McGowan. "Now we're going to be able to ensure the pets are eating food that's nutrition- ally balanced for their needs?' He added the delivery was a special gift; one that proves everyone has a heart.
