Canada. editorial Time for some answers at the polls If anyone needed more proof Premier Kathleen Wynne and the Liberals have lost the moral authority to gov- ern, Monday's poll by Forum Research released exclu- sively to the Sun confirms it. The survey of 1,049 adults from Oct. 23-25, with a 3% margin of error, found most Ontarians — 51% — want an election now over the Liberal gas plants scandal. That's compared to only 41% who don't and 8% who have no opinion. Even more alarming for the Liberals is that 43% of Ontarians believe they committed a crime during the gas plant scandal, compared to only 22% who don't and 35% who don't know. Now add in that Wynne is an unelected premier, cho- sen only by Liberal partisans to replace Dalton McGuinty, rather than by leading her party to victory in a general election. We've been saying for months it's time for Wynne to call an election. We're disappointed by NDP Leader Andrea Horwath's illogical argument that the Liberals are a politically cor- rupt government that nonetheless should remain in power with NDP support. We don't accept the NDP's excuse the opposition has no realistic chance to force an election until spring. In fact, the NDP could have brought down the Wynne minority government last spring by joining with Tory Leader Tim Hudak in voting non -confidence in the Lib- eral budget. Even now, as Sun Queen's Park columnist Christina Blizzard has noted, Horwath could state publicly the Lib- erals are unfit to govern and that she will join with the Tories to bring them down at the first available opportunity. That would put tremendous moral pressure on Wynne to call a vote and make it crystal clear to the public the Liberals are clinging to power, on borrowed time, out of desperation. The Liberals wasted up to $1.1 billion of our money in the gas plant scandal, according to the Auditor General. They wasted another $1 billion in the eHealth scandal. They wasted hundreds of millions of dollars in the Omge air ambulance scandal, in which lives were lost, and billions more public dollars with their disastrous Green Energy Act. They are the subject of two ongoing police investiga- tions — into Ornge and the gas plant scandal. Enough is enough. It's time the Liberals answered to the electorate. - QMI Agency Frwl -their servi!ce, -their eaciu.ranct, aid fheif 5.0-i:fict,thE5 9reittFu1. ratioq thr7y.6 reimwhker! letter to the editor Seaforth Optimist Club hosting fundraiser for Scott Campbell To the Editor; The Seaforth Optimist Club is hosting a fundraiser for Scott Campbell on Sat. Nov. 16 from 5 p.m. until midnight. We all know that travelling to the big cities for special treatment and medica- tions, not covered by OHIP, can and does create extra debt for families dealing with these unfortunate and heart -breaking circumstances. We are asking the community for their assistance and support in making this event a success. Ways in which you can help might be as simple as buying a ticket or attending and participating in some of the entertaining activities that have been planned or, just come out and enjoy getting involved. Donations of cash or items for our silent and live auctions would be genuinely appreciated. A matching grants program through Optimist International for up to $3,000 will also be uti- lized for this Seaforth Optimist Childhood Cancer project. All monies raised will go directly to the Campbell family.
