Dozens of excited shoppers lined up outside Seaforth
Foodland despite some chilly early -morning temperatures,
eager to get their first glimpse inside the new grocery store
during its re -opening celebration Dec. 6.
A day anxiously awaited by Seaforth residents, doors
opened at 9 a.m. sharp.
As the crowd streamed in, already with shopping carts and
baskets in tow, shoppers couldn't help but take a look
around, smiling from ear -to -ear, with the excitement of kids
on Christmas morning.
Owner Steve Delchiaro, and wife Barb, personally wel-
comed many of the first folks through the doors, shaking
hands and giving out hugs.
"It's overwhelming and exciting. It's great to see that sup-
port back," said Delchairo. "You hear the talk that people
want their store back, but you don't really know until you
open the doors if there's going to be anybody there
For Delchiaro, making sure the store was open before
Christmas had been a priority from the beginning.
"A lot of people thought that was unrealistic, but we made
it happen," he said with a smile, explaining how the complete
store re -build was done in record time. "It's amazing to me
and it's great to see the finished product, I'm glad to be a part
of it. Afterall, the Foodland banner is a part of the community
we're happy to give the community their store back:'
And back they came, some with a long -overdue shopping
list, and some just to take a look around.
Shopper Madelon Maloney had always shopped at the old
store and was happy to be back at it, as traveling out of town
for her groceries was getting tiring.
"I found out the other stores around town weren't as good
as Foodland, I couldn't wait for this to open," she said, adding
how amazing it was to have the new store built so quickly. "I
think Steve must've really pushed to get it open, which was
NOTICE TO MEMBERS
At the Annual General Meeting of the members of
Ritz Lutheran Villa, the members present ratified
amendments to the Villa's by-law effective
September 30,2013.
These amendments were passed to ensure that Ritz Lutheran Villa
has current, up to date contact information for each member in order
to send information and notifications of meetings to the correct address.
In summary these amendments are as follows:
1. The three classes of membership (patron, life and annual) are
eliminated.
2. There is to be one class of membership, namely an annual
membership. In order to be eligible for an annual membership a person
must complete a membership information form and provide two pieces
of identification and pay the annual membership fee which is currently
$20.00 per year. The annual membership fee covers the cost of the
Annual General Meeting and notices sent to members.
3. Current patron and life members can, under the new by-law,
apply to be annual members without any payment of any further fees
provided these members request a waiver of the fee prior to December
31,2013.
4. The application for annual membership must be made each year
and the fee must be paid at least 11 days before the Annual General
Meeting.
5. The new annual membership is for 1 year and automatically
expires (must be renewed) each year. The membership also lapses on
the death of the member.
6. Under the new by-law, information or notices, members may be
mailed or sent by electronic communication i.e. email. Notice of any
meeting may be published in the local newspapers at least 1 time per
week for 2 consecutive weeks prior to the scheduled meeting date.

good."
For Maloney and many residents like
her, having their grocery store back
before the snowy weather was a lucky
break.
"With winter coming, I think every-
body was glad it was opening because if
you have to drive out of town with our
storms, sometimes it gets really bacl:"
Highlights of the day included a
check presentation to the local fire
department, to help purchase imaging
cameras and other equipment, as well
as speeches by Foodland executives
and local dignitaries. There was even
cake.
Mayor Bernie MacLellan said he was
quite impressed with the new store,
noting how happy he was to see Food -
land back on Main Street.
