Driver arrested for impaired
atter ditching truck

On the morning of Nov. 24, Huron County OPP responded
to an incident involving a truck that had ended up in a ditch in
South Huron.
Upon arriving at the intersection of McTaggart Line and
Huron Street, police found a Chevrolet Silverado in the south-
east ditch with the driver's side door pinned alongside a stop
sign.
Officers checked inside the vehicle and found the driver
asleep behind the wheel. After further investigation, it was dis-
covered the driver was displaying several signs that he had
been drinking.
As a result, a 62 -year-old South Huron man has been
charged with impaired driving and drive motor vehicle - over
80 milligrams of alcohol.
He received an automatic 90 -day driver's licence suspension
and his truck was impounded. A court date has been sched-
uled at the Ontario Court of Justice in Exeter on Jan. 23, 2014.

impaired and drug charges

On the evening of Nov. 22, a Huron
County OPP officer observed a Chev-
rolet Cavalier speeding down Huron
Road, just east of Clinton.
The officer pursued for a short dis-
tance before stopping the vehicle
near Front Road.

After speaking with the male driver,
the officer noted the man had been
drinking alcohol and further investi-
gation found the driver was display-
ing several signs of impairment.
A search of the Cavalier revealed a
quantity of marijuana.
Officers took the driver to the Exe-
ter OPP detachment where he
provided two breath samples. Both
tests were above the legal limit.
As a result, a 38 -year-old Huron
East man has been charged with
impaired driving, drive motor vehicle
- over 80 milligrams of alcohol and
possession of a controlled substance
- cannabis marijuana.
He received an automatic 90 -day
driver's licence suspension and his
truck was impounded. A court date
has been scheduled at the Ontario
Court of Justice in Goderich on Jan. 6,
2014.
Jewelry theft in Huron East
Huron Expositor
Huron County OPP officers are cur-
rently investigating the theft of several
pieces of jewelry stolen from a London
Road home.
The property owner notified police of
the theft on Nov. 19.

Unknown suspect(s) are believed to
have entered through an unlocked
screen door sometime between 6 p.m.
on Nov. 3 and 10 a.m. on Nov. 5.
After gaining access to the home,
those responsible entered a bedroom
where they took several pieces of jew-
elry including an antique white gold
anniversary band with diamonds.
The total value of stolen items is esti-
mated at approximately $3,700.
Police are asking that any person with
information regarding this incident
immediately contact Huron County
OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or (519) 524-
8314.
Those wishing to remain anonymous
can call Crime Stoppers at 1 -800 -222 -
TIPS (8477), where they may be eligible
to receive a cash reward of up to
$2,000.
