September events mark new phase in Allan Thompson's
bid for federal Liberal nomination in Huron -Bruce
Special to the Expositor
Allan Thompson's bid for
the federal Liberal nomina-
tion in Huron -Bruce will step
up a notch with a series of six
meet -and -greet and fund-
raising events being held
across the riding this month.
An initial round of six
events will take place in Exe-
ter, Kincardine, Port Elgin,
Walkerton, Goderich and
Seaforth.
"After focusing on com-
munity events and happen-
ings organized by others, I
am now going to shift gears
and hold a series of my own
events," Thompson said in
the latest entry in his blog
ALLAN2015.com.
"I'm hoping that these
events being held all across
the riding in people's homes
or familiar places like the
Legion hall will give me a
chance to reach out to exist-
ing Liberal Party members
and also to connect with
potential new members who
want to get behind my nomi-
nation bid," Thompson said.
"But regardless of their polit-
ical stripe, I would encour-
age people to come out to
hear what I have to say and
have a chat."
The Glammis native
announced on July 14 that he
was seeking the Liberal Party
of Canada nomination in
hopes of becoming the
Huron -Bruce riding's Liberal
candidate in the 2015 federal
election.
The meet -and -greet and
fundraising events are open
to the media and other
members of the public, but
those who want to partici-
pate are asked to follow one
of the links below and regis-
ter for the event they would
like to attend.

"I'm running because I
want to restore principled
leadership and integrity to
Canadian politics," said
Thompson, who was born
and raised on a farm just
outside Glammis in south-
ern Bruce County. "My deci-
sion to run is based on my
commitment to democracy
and my concern that the cur-
rent prime minister is under-
mining the pillars of our
democracy. I think the peo-
ple of Huron -Bruce deserve
an effective MP who is part
of a government they can be
proud of."
Thompson, 50, a journalism
professor at Ottawa's Carleton
University, is a former political
reporter for the Toronto Star.
He went to school at Bruce
Township Central Public in
Underwood and Walkerton
District Secondary School and
began his journalism career as
a reporter with the Kincardine
Independent and Teeswater
News.

Local seniors take a trip down
the St. Clair River in Sarnia
A number of residents from Seaforth Manor recently took
a trip to Sarnia for a two-hour cruise down the St. Clair
River on the Duc d'Orleans II where they were served
lunch and learned about the Canadian and American
shorelines along the river.
