Huron Expositor, 2014-09-03, Page 17Hiking excursion along the Maitland Valley
Do you enjoy going for a hike?
Would you like a reason to push
your fitness up a level? Want to see
some amazing fall scenery along the
Maitland Valley?
Here is an exciting early fall chal-
lenge on the weekend of Sept. 27
and 28: Walk the Camino of the
Winding Maitland River, a two-day
hiking event that covers the length
of the 49 kilometre Maitland Trail or
a shorter challenge if you wish.
There will also be some from the
trail -running community taking
part. Theywill strive to complete the
joumey in one day.
Enjoy the camaraderie of other
hikers from across the province as
you travel to each checkpoint and
share the Saturday night harvest
dinner.
This exciting fall hike, which is
generously sponsored by Libro, is
already 50 per cent sold out.
From Aleksandar Radan, a hiker
from lastyear's Camino of the Wind-
ing Maitland River: "For those who
are unfamiliar with the trail, the
opportunity to traverse it in two days
is a promise of adventure and mem-
ories in grand proportion. The trail is
truly a signature of the region's natu-
ral beauty, withvariations in the sec-
tions that span dense and lush
mature growth forests, meadows,
rolling country side and several
opportunities to experience the areas
of regeneration following the 2011 F3
tornado before finally arriving at
Goderich's main beach. An opportu-
nity to dip your feet into the refresh-
ing waters of the great lake washes
away any fatigue and leaves only
vivid memories. The cumulative ele-
vation gain and descent engages
both your attention and effort afford-
ing vistas overlooking the Maitland
River that are worthy of a lifetime of
adulation. This year's event, with a
date in September, will provide the
added benefit of cooler tempera-
tures, no bugs and a completely dif-
ferent experience than the journey
on last year's Summer Solstice':
