Families have stress for a variety of reasons. These stresses can include having multiple children under the age of five, job loss, financial uncertainty and strained personal relationships. Not all stress is bad; such as when a family moves into a new home or you are begin- ning a new job. It is impor- tant to understand the stress in your life and how you can manage effectively. There are ways to help feel like you are able to manage this stress. By making time for your- self to relax and recharge this will help you cope better. You can do this by going for a walk, reading a book, danc- ing to great music or talking with a friend. Increase your quality family time Find ways to do enjoyable activities with you and your family. By spending more quality time together, it improves the parent-child relationship. Even though it may be difficult to incorpo- rate extracurricular activities into the family's schedule, consider being creative by having a family game night, dinner together or engage in other activities that your child enjoys. Use your support systems Having social support is very helpful to decreasing parenting stress. You can ask family members or friends to help out with childcare a few hours a week so that you have time to recharge your energy. You can also find support in tallcing with other parents about their parent- ing struggles. It is always good to hear how others have addressed a problem or find that you are not alone. Seek professional help If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, seek profes- sional help from an agency in your community. They may be able to provide you with resources to help improve your child's func- tioning and decrease prob- lem behaviors that may increase parenting stress. Many professionals in Huron County would be will- ing to help families when they are feeling stressed. Eagles show their pride during Spirit Week Eagles' Spirit Week has come to a close, and there were many great memories to be shared. Tuesday, Octo- ber 14th was Tattoo-sday. Students were given a tattoo of the Eagles' logo upon entering the school, and this was followed by Wacky Hair Wednesday, where students were given an opportunity to show off their spirit with wacky hairstyles. The annual Walk For Wellness, the highlight of Spirit Week, was an enormous success. Together, the school worked to fundraise over $17,000, with individual students raising as much as $500. Great job and thank you to everybody who helped con- tribute, all donations were greatly appreciated. Walk for Wellness is a great day for homeroom classes to show off their spirit by pick- ing a class theme, setting goals, and making a cheer. Attendance for the event was also the best that St. Anne's has seen in the history of the event, with over 85% attendance. Over- all, it was an extremely suc- cessful Eagles' Spirit Week. Hopefully the positive energy and momentum fol- lowing this exciting week can be carried forth for the remainder of the school year. This week we look for- ward to Service Trips begin- ning, our Renewable Energy SHSM students are heading out on a Reach Ahead trip and we are very excited to host our annual Grade 8 Tech Day. All Grade 8 stu- dents come to St. Anne's to see our Transportation, Construction, Communica- tion and Hair Styling and Aesthetics programs in action. Our Volleyball, Bas- ketball, Field Hockey and Cross Country teams all compete and we know they will focus on skill and sportsmanship.
