POLICE BRIEFS London man facing several charges after traffic stop CENTRAL HURON — In the early morning hours of Oct. 5, Huron County OPP officers spot- ted a vehicle travelling southbound on Victo- ria Street without their headlights on. Police then pulled over the car and spoke with the occupants when they determined the male pas- senger in the vehicle had provided a false name in an effort to mislead the investigating officer. After confirming the passenger's actual name, it was found he was not complying with the conditions of his court release and probation sentence by hav- ing contact with the female driver of the vehicle. As a result, the 36 -year-old London man is fac- ing several charges including failure to comply with a probation order and obstructing a peace officer. He remains in custody with an upcoming court appear- ance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich. Driver charged after hitting hydro pole MORRIS-TURNBERRY — A 23 -year-old Huron East man is facing charges after he slammed his vehicle into a hydro pole on Browntown Road and failed to remain at the scene. On Sunday, October 5, 2014 at 7:23 p.m. Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers were noti- fied of the collision through Hydro One staff. An inves- tigation determined a driver of a westbound SUV left the roadway and struck a hydro pole in the north ditch. The impact of the collision snapped the hydro pole, shorted out the hydro wires and knocked power out to several residences along Browntown Road. Police were able to identify the involved driver and vehicle from the collision and have since laid charges. The driver is facing charges of careless driving and fail to remain as well as report an acci- dent. He will have to attend Provincial Offences Court at a later date to answer to the charges. OPP investigating break and enter in Brussels HURON EAST — Police are currently investigating a break, enter and theft that took place at McDonald's Home Hardware on Turnberry Street North in Brussels. The incident occurred sometime between 8 p.m. on Oct. 6 and 6 a.m. on Oct. 7. Those responsible forced entry into a storage shed located at the back of the property. Once inside, the thieves stole several items including: • An orange 2009 Polaris RZR, 2 seater ATV, valued at $16,000 • A red 2010 Polaris SE8, ATV valued at $13,000 • A John Deere pressure washer valued at $1,000 The value of the stolen goods is estimated to be around $32,000. The thieves caused an additional $1,500 in damage when they forced entry into the building. Police are asking anyone with information regard- ing this incident to immediately contact Huron OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or (519) 524-8314 Those wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 1 -800 -222 -TIPS (8477), where they may be eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
