Getting in the spirit
Potential customers peruse the many
delicious offerings.
Erin and Ellie McGregor take some time
off of serving duties to enjoy a cup of tea.
A wealth of ladies, anxious to get their hands on some homemade mincemeat, poured into the annual
St. Thomas Anglican Church Christmas bazaar on Nov. 15. Those lucky enough to pick up some of the
coveted confection also got a chance to sit down to tea and sandwiches served with holiday flare.

Huron County Christmas
Bureau gearing up
To the Editor;
Christmas is nearing and with it the
Huron County Christmas Bureau is
gearing up to help ensure no child is
forgotten at Christmas. Last year, over
1000 children, from newborn to age 18,
benefited from your generosity.
The Christmas Bureau is a county-
wide volunteer group that organizes
five gift centres (bureaus) that then dis-
tribute new gifts of toys, clothing and
food gift cards to families that register
for a helping hand.
This year the bureaus are located at:
Clinton: Canadian Legion 95 Kirk St.,
hosted by St. Peters Catholic Church,
Exeter: Exeter United Church 42
James St. Exeter
Goderich: Trinity Christian Reformed
Church 245 Mill Rd. Goderich

Letter to the editor
Better to give
than receive
To the Editor;
When my parents, Chris and Shelly
Smith, gave my siblings and I an
early Christmas present last year, I
never dreamed it would impact my
life like I did.
Our cruise took us to the island of
Roatan, Honduras. It was a very beau-
tiful island with plenty of sun and
sand. But, when our tour guide took
us on a private tour of the island
where things are not so nice, I was
taken aback by the poor living condi-
tions and felt so bad for the children.
The children of Roatan make a lot of
crafts to support their family. We
stopped at one small vender and were
surprised to meet a missionary couple
from Oakville who devoted all their
time to the Roatan children and help
them with crafts.
Every Christmas, the Oakville cou-
ple collects items the families will
need like tooth paste, cleaning
We ask for your assistance once
again this year in helping meet the
need to assist others. Donations of
new toys, gift cards, recreational
items or clothing will be gratefully
received at the churches or commu-
nity drop boxes until Dec. 5. Financial
contributions are also required and
are much appreciated. These can be
made at the church Bureaus or
mailed to the care of Huron -Perth
Children's Aid Society, 413 MacEwan,
Goderich, N7A 4M1.
We also wish to make custodial par-
ents, who live in Huron County, aware
that the phones will be opening on Nov.
17 until Dec. 5, if you would like to
make a confidential appointment.
Please call 519-524-7356 or 1-800-
265-5198 at extension 3271.
Appointments will be scheduled the
week of Dec. 8.
We truly thank the people, busi-
nesses, groups, churches and schools
have been so generous and support-
ive of the Christmas Bureau in the
past years.
Merry Christmas,

supplies and hygiene products. When
we were there it was close to Christ-
mastime, I got to see all the boxes
they collected and I was shocked by
all the supplies that were needed.
So my trip was very rewarding and
when I got home I decided to make pop
tab bracelets a young girl showed me
how to make while I was there.
Well, it took a few months to collect
enough pop can tabs, the right elastic
and the paint. So, by spring I had sold
lots to friends and family at sporting
events and yard sales. With the pro-
ceeds doing so well, I decided to keep
all the money aside and help the chil-
dren of Roatan to make more crafts. I
sold my last bracelet a few weeks ago
so I tracked down the nice couple
from Oakville and sent them $200.
They appreciated the donation I sent
very much, especially so close to
Christmas. She said the money will
sure go to great use.
My experience has been so worth-
while and it gives me the real meaning
of Christmas it is much better to give
than to receive.
