Knitting ladies hold year end meeting Ruth Campbell Winthrop correspondent We are certainly getting enough rain. The farmers are wishing it would slow down until the seeds are in the ground. The lawns are staying green and need cut- ting regularily. At Cavan Church on Sunday, the Christ Candle was lit by Diane Flood. A green stole was presented to Minister Mary by Carol Campbell and Maja Dodds. Mary and her hus- band were ordained this past weekend. The children's story was about bees, based on a recent editorial in the Expositor. "I Have Called You by Your Name," was the anthem sung by the choir and it was also dedicated to Mary on her ordination. Mary's message was titled, "Seedlings Which Grow!' Mary grew up on the edge of Sarnia where there were lots of fruit trees and plants, etc., which were teeming with life - birds, insects, creatures, etc. We should take note of the cre- ativity around us. A tiny seed recreates itself, each of us is unique. The knitting and crochet- ing ladies held their last get- together for the season at Ruth Artmann's. It will resume later in the year. It is a social get together, as well as a learning experience. Anyone wanting to learn to knit or crochet is welcome. Food for Thought Old age is like a car. Paint can conceal the exterior, but the lines reveal the age. Three local organizations will be the recipients of pro- ceeds from a charity hockey game set for Thurs., July 24. Huron -Bruce MP Ben Lobb formally announced the "Raise a Little Health" charity game last week. Proceeds will be donated the Goderich-Huron YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign, Gate- way Centre of Excellence in Rural Health in Seaforth and Alexandra Marine and Gen- eral Hospital (AMGH). Lobb, who is scheduled to play in the game, said organizers are busy lining up the rosters which already include Ryan 0' Reilly of the Colorado Ava- lanche and former NHLer and Stanley Cup winner Boyd Devereaux. Lobb indicated that more players would be announced throughout the upcoming months. He said he expected some other MPs to participate as well as local residents. The fundraising goal for the game is $50,000. Gwen Devereaux, presi- dent of the board of directors for Gateway, said their por- tion of the proceeds "will be used to employ the local bright minds of young peo- ple, to help us solve the health problems and remedy the health issues that are endemic in rural Canada." Karen Davis, CEO of AMGH, said, "Thank you so much for supporting your local hospital to help fund the equipment needs in our emergency and critical care areas." Anne -Marie Thomson, coordinator of community recreation and programs for the Goderich-Huron YMCA, said the Strong Kids Cam- paign helps to eliminate financial barriers faced by children and families that use their services. The event will also feature a silent auction - prizes include a two tickets to any- where WestJet flies and assorted hockey memorabilia. Tickets for the game are available at Lobb's offices in Goderich and Port Elgin, the Gateway Centre in Seaforth, the AMGH gift shop and the Goderich-Huron YMCA.
