It was a sock hoppin' good
time at the Alzheimer Huron
Fabulous 50s Dinner and
Auction held at the Central
Huron Community Complex
on April 26.
Diners, drive-ins and soda
shops was the theme of this
year's event, a throwback night
complete with classic tunes
and poodle skirts.
"Everybody dressed up and
looked really good, which really
made the evening," said Brit-
tany Williams, events

coordinator for the Alzheimer Society
of Huron County. "The turnout was
amazing and we received so many
generous donations from individuals
and businesses, which really added to
the success of the live and silent
auctions."
The society was able to raise a total
of $23,317.70, which will go towards
helping to fund several programs and
services offered to clients and families
of those living with Alzheimer's and
other forms of dementia.
"It was great to see so many people
out, showing their generous support,"
said Williams, adding how important
donations are to the success of the
society's programs. "The money raised
from the event will go towards our Just
For You volunteer program, which is
something we're trying to growing all
across the county."
The Just For You volunteer compan-
ion program is an one-on-one visiting
program for individuals with Alzheim-
er's disease or related dementia.
Volunteer companions are matched
with a person with the disease and
visit once a week, during their pre-
ferred time, to provide socialization
and meaningful activity to the individ-
ual. These visits give the caregiver
opportunity for respite and assist them
in keeping their loved one at home
longer.
"The evening was a great success,"
said Williams. "I just can't say enough
about how grateful we are for the sup-
port we've seen throughout the
community."
The Alzheimer Society of Huron
County depends on the generosity of
the community for the financial sup-
port necessary to provide information,
education, counselling and support
services to individuals and families.
With less than 49 per cent of their
budget comes from government or
other outside sources, they rely on
individuals, families, organizations
and businesses to help us provide
financial assistance for services and
Donations can be made in any amount
and at any time.
Ways to donate
• Individuals, businesses and organ-
izations can make one major donation
a year. This can be in response to our
direct mail campaign or because they
have made us part of their planned
annual charitable giving
• Monthly giving can be done by
providing post dated cheques or pre -
authorized credit card transactions.
Some people find it easier to fit their
gifts into their budget by dividing their
donations into monthly
contributions.
• Memorial donations are a fitting
way to honour the passing of a relative
or friend and can be made through the
funeral home or directly through our
Society. At your request, a card can be
sent to the family informing them a
memorial donation has been made by
you in the memory of their loved one.
• Donations can be made in the
name of an individual to honour a
birthday, Christmas, wedding, anni-
versary or any other time you need to
give a gift.
• You can make a provision in your
will to remember the Alzheimer Soci-
ety of Huron County.
• Bequests or other planned gifts
(such as insurance policies or trusts)
are another great way to contribute to
Alzheimer Huron.
