The seventh -ranked team in Ontario
at the U19 level - the Seaforth Storm -
just missed bringing home a medal
from the provincial ringette `' champi-
onships March 13-16 in Kitchener.
Seaforth was winless in their first
three games of the six -team round-
robin, but by close scores: 2-1 to both
Chatham and Gloucester, and a 1-1 tie
with Ottawa. The Storm regrouped to
win three straight games, 5-1 over
Elora -Fergus, 5-2 over St. Marys and
3-1 over Ajax, and finish fourth and
earn a berth in the playoff round on the
tournament's final day.
In the semi-final against St. Marys
once again Sunday, March 16, Mel
Nolan scored in the first half for Sea -
forth to give them the lead but the
eventual champions from St. Marys
tied it in the first half then snapped the
tie with under five minutes left in regu-
lation to win, 2-1.
Later, in the bronze medal game
against Elora -Fergus, the Storm got off
to a slow start and trailed 4-0 at the half,
5-0 early in the second before rallying
for four goals - two each from Lindsay
Govers and Nolan - in a six -minute
span to draw within a goal, but not
close enough in a 5-4 loss.
Nolan finished the tournament in a
tie for the scoring lead with 11 goals
and 13 -points, while goalie Kristin
Krainz had the lowest goals against
average at 2.00.
