Huron Solutions, owned and oper-
ated by certified management con-
sultant Lianti Muller, is recognizing a
decade of existence.
Originally from South Africa, Muller
and her family arrived in Canada in
2002, landing in Cambridge.
She was pregnant at the time and
gave birth to their youngest daughter
six weeks later.
Her husband's family had already
settled in Canada and she said, "there
were far better opportunities for
employment" here.
Milner and her family settled in
Goderich in late -2003 and found it was
what they were looking for.
"We always wanted to be in a small
town;' Muller said.
She joined Rotary International and
The Chamber of Commerce in an
attempt to get to know people in town.
After establishing Huron Solutions
in 2004, Muller performed all the train-
ing and testing needed to become a
certified management consultant.
She is a member of the national board
for the Canadian Association of Man-
agement Consultants (CMC), the past -
president of the Institute for Certified
Management Consultants of Ontario
(ICMCO) and also the past director of
the Huron Manufacturing Association.
According to the CMC website, man-
agement consulting is "an independent
professional advisory service assisting
managers and organizations to achieve
organizational purposes and objectives

opportunities, enhancing learning, and
implementing changes.
Professional management consult-
ants may be asked to provide objective
advice that will help an organization
solve problems or manage change,
including business start-up, expansion,
reorganization, diversification, down-
sizing, disposal of assets, planning,
review of operations, launching
projects, or acquiring and implement-
ing technology.
Management consultants are knowl-
edgeable in a number of these areas,
but most specialize in just one.
For example, Muller specializes in
operations.
She helped Bruce Power streamline
their processes in hopes of eliminating
wasteful repetitive paperwork and
actions.
She has consulted for companies in
Columbia and Mozambique.
Muller said she enjoys the
"variety and flexibility" of her
profession.
"I like to see people suc-
ceed and to be part of that
success!"
According to Muller, the
CMC has a code of conduct
that members abide by, and
they must not get in over
their heads by taking on
projects they don't have the
expertise in.
Over the past 10 years, the
use of management consul-
tation has spread into a
number of new industries,
including agriculture, Muller
said.
In recognition of the 10th
anniversary of her business,
Muller has offered a
number of free local work-
shops including one in
Goderich, which were "well
received and well
attended!'
She keeps busy in her
spare time as well.
She played a large role in
a Rotary International
project that helped to train
50 people in Zambia in the
art of sewing.
Expanding up on that,
she helped to found the
non-profit organization
Impact Zambia.
New Life Tabernacle and
Cell Ministries from Zam-
bia have partnered with
Trinity Christian Reformed
Church in Goderich as sis-
ter churches on the project.
Muller serves as Cana-
dian country lead for
Impact Zambia.
Their biggest project on
the go is constructing a
training centre in Zambia.
The project includes two
phases; the first is sched-
uled to begin in April.
They also hope to build
an Internet cafe that would
help the community
become more connected.
