March for Meals delivers smiles in Seaforth
Whitney South

A luxury many of us take for granted,
a hot and nutritious meal can mean a
lot. Pair that with warm smiles, and
you have program that means so much
to so many residents of Huron County
who may otherwise go without.
On March 19, ONE CARE Home and
Community Support Service partici-
pated in this year's March for Meals, a
day dedicated to help raise awareness of
the Meals on Wheels program, as well
as seniors' nutritional needs.
"We have a community champion go
out to see what we do and promote what
we're doing throughout the commu-
nity," said Cindy GraveIle-Holbrook,
Nutrition Supervisor with ONE CARE,
adding this year's champion was Jan
Hawley, Economic Development Officer
for Huron East.
Hawley, along with Meals on Wheels
volunteer driver Ruth Campbell, helped
deliver hot meals to local seniors.
Currently, the service delivers to
seven clients in Seaforth three times a
week, and averages overall about 60
Meals on Wheels per week from their
Clinton Kitchen.
Jennifer Croft, manager of commu-
nity programs at ONE CARE, explained
since the kitchen was expanded two
years ago, the program has been able to
cater to several different dietary needs,
while servicing Seaforth, Clinton,
Goderich and Exeter from just one
location.
"Our primary clientele is seniors, and
the goal is to help senior age in their
own homes and in their own commu-
nities," she said. "So the services that
ONE CARE provides include the meals
programs as well as several other pro-
grams. The idea behind it is for those
who need both quality nutrition as well
as assistance with meals to make sure
they have that independence at home:'
Last year, ONE CARE volunteers
delivered more than 46,000 meals
throughout Huron County, as well as
Stratford.
The program supports people in a
number of situations, from those receiv-
ing short-term assistance, to seniors
who need a little help when it comes to
living a healthy, independent lifestyle.
Meals on Wheels is just one of the
many services provided by ONE CARE
which support seniors to enjoy a good
quality of life as they age at home. Other
