Shining bright, Stars win tournament
For the Expositor
Gold on the jerseys was soon accompa-
nied by gold around the necks of 14 stars
this week as the Novice team went to
Plattsville to compete in the Little Braves
Tournament. Four games in six hours
didn't slow this team down and to the
delight of the crowd, the green machine
fired up to bring home the championship.
Game one was against the first of three
New Hamburg Husky teams in the tourna-
ment. The Stars knew they would be in
tough after the Husky #1 team had just
routed their first opponent 13-1. However,
the Stars came out and forechecked with a
purpose and a great opening game was
played. The Stars opened up a 3-1 lead
heading into the third, however, the Husky
#1 team had zero quit and after tying the
game late the Husky's snuck a goal in with
39 seconds left to win 4-3.
The loss seemed to take a little wind out
of the sails of the Stars. Game two started
with a slow pace and the Stars seemed
happy to let their opponents stay with
them. Good goaltending by P. Hunter kept
the team in the game until the Stars were
able to pot a couple of goals to get the
game to overtime. Playing short handed in
the extra frame just opened up the ice for
J.Dietz, the Stars were back out for their
third contest. Whatever the Stars didn't
have in game two, they found for game
three. Playing against the Husky #2 team,
the Stars gave them fits. It must have
seemed like there were 10 green jerseys on
the ice at all times. The Stars struck early
and often.
Led by J.Pelss' 5 -point effort, and strong
play by Q.Wilson and brother C.Wilson,
the Stars put nine goals on the board that
could only be described as a total team
effort. G.Whyte was all over the ice in
defence, keeping the pucks up ice so

B. O'Reilly has absolutely taken his
game to a new level playing smart hockey
and created chance after chance not only
for himself but also his teammates who
were the beneficiaries of hard work. And if
the puck came close to the right point
S.Tenhag dashed dreams by sending it
back deep.
The only question left at the end of game
three was whether or not the Stars emptied
the tank and would there be anything left
for the gold medal match against the
Husky #1 squad who had beat them in
game one.
The game didn't start out great. The
Huskies were all over the Stars, pinning
them in their end for long stretches. How-
ever, Hunter as if to sayyou guys took care
of business in game three I will take care of
business in the finals stood on his head

right pad save and blocker save that would
have made Grant Fuhr take notice. The
result a calming effect on his team that
allowed the confidence to build.
Near the end of the first, Pelss potted a
beauty to put the Stars up. After the Husk-
ies tied the score just before the bu77er the
kids from C4th regrouped and played a
great second period. Dietz scored to make
it 2-1 his toumament leading snipe and N.
Robinson who was all over the ice all tour-
nament scored the eventual game winner
to extend the lead to 3-1.
The play of the game may have hap-
pened in the second. After a tumover in
the offensive zone the Huskies were break-
ing down the ice seemingly uncontested
when out of nowhere D.Moylan came fly-
ing back to lift a stick and break up the
chance.

The third saw the Huskies bring the game within one and a furi-
ous finish with the Husky net empty saw real good defensive work
from everyone on the ice including L. McGregor, who cleared the
front of the Stars goal. A team effort a final buzzer and 14 gold
medals.
The novice are currently undefeated in their playoffs and have
two games remaining to win the championship.
