do it someone else would. No. Our
financially inept provincial govern-
ment is solely responsible. They
signed a contract committing the
people of Ontario to pay to have the
turbines built and by buying the
electricity they produced. They
passed the Green Energy Act, strip-
ping municipal authorities of any
power to control if or where the tur-
bines would be placed. It's just
another, no doubt the most costly,
the longest lasting in a string of
financial disasters dumped on the
people of Ontario by 10 years of a
provincial government that lacks a
shred of business sense.
How much longer will they be
allowed to mess up our financial
affairs?

Huron -Bruce MPP says it's time for change in Ontario
Dave Flaherty
QMI Agency
The Liberals dodged an
election bullet last week, but
Huron -Bruce MPP Lisa
Thompson believes the peo-
ple of Ontario are ready for
change.
The provincial
government survived a
series of confidence votes
and supply motions, which
essentially allow the govern-
ment to pay the bills, were
passed.
If the motions were
defeated, an election would
have been forced.
Thompson said the timing

of the motions were a tactic by the Lib-
erals to catch Conservative MPPs "off
base':
Thompson also said the Liberals
switched which bills would be dis-
cussed on that date, causing a number
of Conservative MPPs to miss sched-
uled activities at the Rural Ontario
Municipality Association (ROMA)
Conference.
"We were very frustrated by that,"
Thompson said.
Thompson said passing the motions
will allow the Liberals to keep focus
away from debate on the province's
finances.
She said the Liberals could poten-
tially delay the budget, which is usually
delivered in March, until the fall if they
wanted to.
However, Finance Minister Charles
Sousa was quoted last week stating the
budget delivery date will be decided
soon.
Even though they will have to wait
for an election, Thompson believes it's
time for change.
"I absolutely think Ontarians are
ready for an election based on the
phone calls I get at my three offices,"
Thompson said.
She said Ontario has become unaf-
fordable and hard to live in.

Ontario decide," she said.
Thompson said the NDP has sat on
their hands.
Asked whether she believes the NDP
has gained any momentum since the
last election, Thompson said she
doesn't see them as a threat.
John Rich, president of the Huron -
Bruce NDP Riding Associaton, said
Thompson is "playing a lot of politics."
"They are in election mode," Rich
said. "She's just speaking out on the
same talking points as the rest of the
party."
Rich said the NDP is not going to
force an election just because the PCs
want to.
"Everyone should be in the best posi-
tion possible. We want to make sure we
put our best face forward so the Ontario
population has a chance to choose,"
Rich said.
Rich said minority governments
mean that parties have to work
together.
"The PCs aren't willing to work with
anyone," he said.
That said, Rich believes the Liberals
need to be held accountable for "all the
scandals':
"You have guys like McGuinty who
were out for their own self-interest. As
soon as politicians get into that mind-
set everyone loses; Rich said.
As for as possible election this year,
Rich said he hopes to have a local can-
didate in place by the end of the
month.
