Her business, Relook Nook, aims to offer the customer an experience rather than just a place to shop. Offering quality consignments, Relook Nook has a little bit of everything from casual to cocktail clothing, footwear, purses, jewelry, vintage wear and coats. However, the store offers more than just wearable items - with furniture, pictures, lighting and collectibles also available. Turner says while moving to a new area to open a brand new business was a challenge, it's the small things like trying to remember everyone's name that set a business apart. Turner meets many people both as owner of Relook Nook and through being the dry-cleaning depot for Bluewater Cleaners out of Goderich. In addition to that, Turner became the new Sears Catalogue dealer in Clinton as of February 1. Her motto reflects her attitude toward business and community: "It's all about the people you meet along the way." RELOOK NOOK • 14 ISAAC ST., CLINTON 519-606-4001 Winnie Brown Winnie Brown has always had a passion for dogs, and understands the love and compassion people feel toward their pets. As owner of Browndog Kennels, Brown strives to provide quality care that is second to none. The business is located on a five -acre property on Porter's Hill Line, and provides personalized pet care in a picturesque setting. It is not a large kennel, with just seven indoor/outdoor runs. This helps provide closer, more relaxed care to a smaller number of animals than a larger kennel could. Browndog Kennels offers a stress free, safe environment for pets, as well as peace of mind for owners who are away for business or pleasure. "This work is also our life, as our business is where we live and part of our daily routine," Brown says. The best advertising has been word of mouth, as the reputation of Browndog Kennels grows with the excellent service they continue to offer. The kennel is close to both Goderich and Clinton, and available by appointment by calling 519-524-4846 or through browndogkennels.net. One of a handful of Neurologic Music Therapists in Canada, Prouse uses music to help clients of all ages and abilities with cognitive, sensory and motor dysfunctions stemming from neurologic diseases such as stroke, Parkinsons, autism and TBI. The greatest challenge to starting her business was a lack of knowledge and understanding of the role of music therapy as a health profession, as well as the size of territory she covers. Prouse works with children with special needs, adults with developmental disabilities as well as seniors in long-term care. Self-care is important in a practice that is physically and emotionally consuming, as is the support of other music therapists around the world. Prouse said she uses social media sites Facebook and Twitter as a means of staying up to date in her field, share ideas with other music therapists and find support and resources for the job. Dp Music Therapy is open year-round by appointment. dp MUSIC THERAPY • 81 ALBERT ST., CLINTON 519-441-2576 Percy MacDonald Per-Fect Designs owner Percy MacDonald has been in the floral design business for 14 years, with a long history of excellent service in Clinton. After years of successfully operating her own home-based interior decorating business, she made the leap to fuel injection when HFI came up for sale in 1998. The business provides service for automotive and agricultural customers. Changing with the times means changing the products and services, and Huron Fuel Injections is moving toward stocking exchange units for electronic fuel injection systems. Specialized training on fuel injection repair gives Huron Fuel Injection an advantage in an area where their service stands alone within an 80 -kilometre radius. The peak business times are also peak times for agriculture - seeding and harvest. Heather says she is working to build an online presence for the business, while still managing to satisfy her creative side as an artist and painting instructor. The service offered by HFI is in high demand, due to the specialized nature of the business, and it's the right mix of creativity and expertise that has allowed the DeJongs to flourish in the more than 15 years they have operated the business.
