Regardless of age, flexibility, size or situation, if you can breathe you can do yoga. Instructor Rhonda Bundy has been doing yoga for 20 years, and says Kundalini Yoga is a unique approach to relaxing the body and clearing the mind. Breathing, movement, mantras, locks and visualization are all part of the individual experience. "The classes are all quite different," Bundy says. "Each with a specific order of movement, breath and sound that work toward a specific outcome, so preparation is vital to a successful class." She says her biggest challenges in starting out were time management and getting the word out. While Bundy practices daily, and loves what she does, continuing a practice that has been around for more than 15,000 years. "It is one of the only things in the history of humanity that has existed for so long without ever being forced upon people," she says. THE DUTCH STORE • 55 ALBERT ST., CLINTON 519-482-7302 Veronica Lee Dentistry has long been a family business for Dr. Veronica Lee, owner of Clinton Dental Clinic at 218 Ontario Street. Her father, Dr. Grant Lee started the Clinton practice in 1985, operating out of the Clinton Medical Centre. In 2007, the year Veronica started in Clinton, the current day clinic was built. "I was extremely fortunate to be able to come and work here in my hometown with my father immediately after I finished dental school," Lee says. "We worked together every day for six years. He was my inspiration, mentor and business partner." When her father passed away in 2013, Lee went from being partner to the sole owner of the business. Because of the support of her family, staff and her "patients' patience", the practice continues to be a successful one. Staying on the cutting edge of new technology is a big part of Lee's practice. Three of the most exciting are 'six month smiles' an esthetic adult braces system that can straighten teeth between 6-9 months; Biolase iPlus, which can provide many dental treatments without the need for freezing; and the Wand - a device that gives freezing without needles. Clinton Dental Clinic is a family practice in every sense of the word. Lee's sister, Dr. Melinda Lee, will be joining the practice later this year. Veronica said she could not have been successful without her family's support, adding "I also live by the quote `If you choose a job you love you'll never have to work a day in your life.- She says. "I truly love my profession, which makes life easier." CLINTON DENTAL CLINIC • 218 ONTARIO ST., CLINTON 519-482-9392 One of the younger businesses on the block, the Backyard Flower Shop has beenopen for just over a year now and owner Tricia Renner -Robinson said what sets it apart its versatility. "Not many people are lucky enough to have both flowers and the greenhouses in the middle of town," she says. "I can service variety of target markets and if one aspect of my business has down time the other picks it up." She has learned a lot during her first year in business, but the largest lesson is that small changes make the biggest difference. Renner -Robinson said the importance of social media is great, allowing her to get the word out quickly and to Tricia Renner -Robinson a large number of people, but the trick is learning how to use it most effectively. Balancing work and personal life is important to Renner -Robinson, and she notes she has a wonderful husband who helps out at the shop and takes an active role in the business. Taking time for one another and for yourself may not always be easy, she says, but it is very important as is family support. The shop is located at 61 Orange Street and is open year-round Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. THE BACKYARD FLOWER SHOP • 81 Orange St., Clinton 519-482-7012 Sandra Garnet For more than 20 years, Sassy Stitches has been helping people look their best with unique fashion creations. Owner Sandra Garnet got her start sewing children's outfits, selling them at the Stratford market before moving to Huron County. Garnet's talent with a needle and thread also allowed her to branch out into doing alterations, but her personal preference has always been creating from scratch. "I find the most relaxing place for me is in front of my sewing machine, learning new techniques and incorporating them into what I sew for the store," Garnet says. Sassy Stitches is just one of 25 vendors operating out of the Made in Huron Artisan Market at 38 Albert Street. Being in a rural location has its challenges, as supply runs often take her to surrounding cities for fabrics and notions, however Garnet keeps a close eye on the price of materials to ensure her customers get reasonably priced custom garments. "Sassy Stitches is unique in that I search out fabrics that may not be available to everyone locally," Garnet says. "I try to make every item different in some way, using a variety of finishing touches that will prevent you from seeing the same outfit walking towards you on the street." Made in Huron is open Monday to Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. SASSY STITCHES • 38 ALBERT ST., CLINTON 519-482-1445 Janet Brunswick RNCP, R.BIE, RPN Supporting the needs of the mind, body and spirit to help clients meet their health goals is what inspires Janet Brunswick.
