Ideas welcome for second annual Jane's Walk
To the Editor;
Jane's Walk is an annual
celebration of the ideas and
legacy of Jane Jacobs, a
well-known urbanist and
activist whose writings
championed a fresh, com-
munity-based approach to
city building.
Each year, Jane's Walk
events are hosted across the
world on the first weekend
of May and focus on getting
people out exploring their
neighbourhoods and meet-
ing their neighbours
through free walking tours
led by locals.
Sponsored by the Mait-
land Trail Association, last
year marked the successful
first year a Jane's Walk was
held in Goderich.
More than 75 participants
explored the downtown
core learning more about
The Square's history, down-
town living, urban vegeta-
ble gardening, architecture,
accessibility, and youth
usage of The Square.
In an effort to embrace
the community -led nature
of Jane's work, the group
organizing this year's walk
would like to invite individ-
uals to lead walks based on
their own passions and
interests in their commu-
nity. Confirmed to date is a
back -alley photography
tour of the downtown core,
with more exciting ideas to
soon be presented. Ideally,
walks should be accessible
for everyone and will take
place anytime during the
May 2-4 weekend.
If there is something you
would like to share about
your community or
neighbourhood, please e-mail
janeswalkgoderich@gmail.com or call

your interests and ideas by March 31
so we can finalize preparations for this
engaging event. For more information

guides for developing and leading
walks, visit http://www.janeswalk.
