Whitney South
After a two-year hiatus, Twilight
Tunes will once again take over the
Victoria Park bandstand, beginning
June 19.
"It's a lovely venue, with great
music," said organizer Bob Fisher.
"It's a very pleasant evening meet-
ing your neighbours and friends."
The event, which had run Thurs-
day evenings during the summer for
five years until 2012, usually
attracted between 60 and 110 spec-
tators to each performance.
The event didn't run the last two
years because some of the original
organizers were no longer able to
help out.
Fisher's mission became trying to
find someone to help set up and
take down the speakers, micro-
phones and amplifiers for each of
the performances.
"We're back and we have a solid
group of volunteers to run things,"
said Fisher.
This year, Twilight Tunes is giving
local musicians a chance to get up
and show their stuff with an open
mic time scheduled in each
performance.
Fisher hopes the new format
will not only encourage a new
batch of spectators, but perform-
ers as well.
"We want people to contact us
and schedule a time to play," he
said. "It's a community event and
strengthens the community, bring-
ing people together socially."
Donations are always encouraged
to help cover the costs of the sound
system and equipment, and specta-
tors are reminded to bring their own
lawnchairs.
The evening begins with an old
time jamboree at 5:45 p.m. with the
open mic to follow.
Those wishing to perform can
contact Pete Klaver at 519-600-0707.
For any other information, contact
Bob Fisher at 519-522-1394.
