Seaforth Ag Society gets ready to Raise the Roof
Whitney South
Huron Expositor
Standing tall in the middle
of the arena parking lot, the
Seaforth roundhouse has
certainly seen better days.
The building, which is
described as a site showcas-
ing the prominent role of
agriculture in the develop-
ment of Seaforth, as well as
the history of the Ag Society
itself, was erected in the
early 1900s and was the site
of the first fair in 1902.
In an effort to rejuvenate
the once proud structure,
which is currently in need of
a new roof, the Seaforth
Agricultural Society is hold-
ing an evening of local enter-
tainment on June 14 at the
Seaforth Agriplex.
"It's very old, full of
holes and leaking like a
sieve," said Joan Whyte,
one of the event's organiz-
ers, as well as a member of
the homecraft division.
She went on to explain
with handcrafted items
such as quilts on display,
having a possible leak in
the roof could be very
damaging. "It's very
unnerving."
The society has been sav-
ing up for repairs for a num-
ber of years and hope this
event will help put them over
the top.
"We've been working on
this project for a really
long time. Now we want to
let everyone know we're
really doing it," explained
Whyte.

Seaforth itself.
"It needs a roof or we
won't be able to continue
using it," she said, adding
because it has been declared
a heritage site, the roof will
have to be returned to its
original cedar shingles.
The evening will feature
a wealth of local enter-
tainment including the
Huron County Cloggers,
as well as the Snell and
Sills families.
"This is a close-knit com-

Glanville. "We want every-
