Links Championship
For the Huron Expositor
Seaforth Golf Club's
Robyn Doig advanced
to the United States
Golf Association's
Women's Public Links
Championship after
making a birdie on the
first play-off at Eagle
Creek Golf Club in
Norwalk, Ohio, on
May 28. Doig, 22, is a
senior at University of
Central Florida in
Orlando, where she is
a member of the
Golden Knights Wom-
en's Golf Team.
With three players
eligible to advance to
the championship,
scheduled for mid-
July at The Home
Club in Seattle,
Washington, Doig's
one over 72 put her in
a tie for third and
resulted in a play off
with American Kait-
lin Neumann.
Doig put her wedge
to four feet on the par
five and sank the putt
to advance.
Robyn's brother Paul,
a freshman at Kenne-
saw State University
and a member of the
Owl's Men's golf team
was on the bag.
"It was nice to have
Paul on the bag and it
was a great feeling to
have the swing changes
I've been making stand
up under pressure,"
said Doig, who is the
current reigning
Ontario Women's Ama-
teur and Women's
Match Play Champion.

Brussels #1 — 3
Seaforth —2
The co-ed U12 team opened the season at
home on a cool evening against Brussels #
1. Things were looking bright when just a few
minutes into the game, Nolan Gagnier would
break in and give the home side a 1-0 lead.
Shortly into the second half Brussels scored
the equalizer to knot things up at 1-1. Cole
Zwep put Seaforth up 2-1, but the visitors
responded with two more in the next 10 min-
utes. This game was about missed opportu-
nities as Seaforth carried the bulk of the play
but couldn't bury the ball in the back of the
net. Brussels was able to capitalize on their
few opportunities and ended up on the win-
ning side of the ledger by a 3-2 score.

Seaforth — 5
Teeswater — 2
After two consecutive postponements due to
weather, the Eagles were happy to make the
trek north to play Teeswater. There was some
definite rust on their wings from the time off,
which was evident when after two minutes the
home Teeswater side would be up 1-0. This
appeared to wake the Screaming Eagles up
and after adjusting to some long grass and a
smaller field; Seaforth carried the bulk of the
play in the first half. By the end of the first,
Nolan Gagnier scored himself a natural hat
trick with Colton Bachert picking up a couple
of assists. Keira Agnew broke in off the right
wing and fired a hard shot, beating the keeper
for a 4-1 score after 35 minutes. On a lovely
individual effort, Cole Zwep put one past the
Teeswater goalie for a 5-1 lead. The home side
responded quickly, pulling within three at 5-2,
but Seaforth closed the door defensively, even-
ing their record for the year with a 5-2 victory.

May 5
Seaforth - 1
St Columban — 0
Seaforth opened the season on a cool spring
night against their neighbors to the east at
SPS Field. Toward the end of the 1st half, Jil-
lian Nixon put one behind the St. Columban
keeper for a 1-0 lead for the Screaming Eagles.
While there were a number of other scor-
ing opportunities throughout the game, the
home side couldn't convert and the game fin-
ished with Seaforth winning by a score of 1-0.
May 19
Seaforth - 2
Goderich — 0
On a lovely Victoria Day evening the Scream-
ing Eagles faced Goderich at SPS Field. Seaforth
opened the scoring in the 2nd half when McKen-
zie Sangster, on a beautiful individual effort, came
along the goal line and squeezed one by the
keeper for a 1-0 lead. Not long after, Jillian Nixon
added a goal for a 2-0 lead for the home side.
With only a couple of subs against a full Goderich
squad, the girls were full marks for the victory.

Seaforth - 4
Clinton — 0
Playing their third straight game at home, the
girls came out with their strongest effort of the
year to date. Jillian Nixon scored the first marker
of the match and the first ha tf would end in a 1-0
score for the Eagles. Dakota Bachert got one by
the keeper for a 2-0 lead. Jillian would add her
second of the game and Dakota would roof one
for a 4-0 lead, ending the match with the same
score. A strong defensive effort again from all
the gids limited opposition scoring opportuntties
and both Dakota and Savannah Veenstra would
take time in net Congrats to the girls in open-
ing the year with their third straight clean sheet.
